Is The Handmaid's Tale season 6 hinting at a major June and Nick reunion through this surprising parallel?

June and Nick's bond in The Handmaid's Tale is the one positive that has come out of the Waterford household, well, apart from Holly, of course. The star-crossed lovers have already crossed paths once in Season 6, and it appears that the stars and their storylines are aligning once again, hinting at a reunion of the two. This is to be expected, considering the last time June and Nick separated, that this wasn't a goodbye, but a 'see you later'.

In the latest episode of The Handmaid Tale Season 6, June and Nick both commit a similar crime under Gilead's law, and this parallel might just end in a reunion for the two, and not a happy one.

Is a parallel going to put a Nick and June reunion in the cards in The Handmaid's Tale?

The Handmaid's Tale Season 6, Episode 5 places June and Moira back in Gilead to conduct a dry run for a Mayday operation. The operation suddenly goes dangerously awry when they are cornered by a Gilead guardian, who also tries to force himself on Moira while holding them at gunpoint.

In a tense altercation between them and the guardian, Moira and June have to kill the guardian to save themselves. They are aware that if the guardian's dead body is found, the whole place will be locked down, making it impossible for them to leave or for Mayday to conduct their operation. They realize that they are going to have to find a way to get rid of the guardian's dead body, and this ends up getting them late for making their way back to Luke and safety in No Man's Land.

The fact that June and Moira have killed a guardian is a crime under Gilead's rule, not to mention all the other crimes, but this particular crime places June at a parallel with Nick, considering he also ends up killing a guardian in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 5.

Nick finds out in conversation with his father-in-law, Commander Wharton, that one of the two guardians that he had shot in Episode 3 when trying to get June, Moira, and Luke out of Gilead was in a coma and might get better. Nick goes to the hospital to visit the guardian and tries to talk to him as he wakes up. The guardian seems pretty out of it, as he keeps asking about a dog when Nick asks him questions about his identity.

Initially, Nick decides to walk away from the room, considering the guardian clearly was in no state to reveal Nick's reality, but he turns back after a second thought. Realizing that the guardian might still be a threat to Nick if he keeps getting better, Nick goes back inside and closes the door this time. The viewers don't get to see what Nick does later, but it is almost certain that Nick kills the guardian in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 Episode 5.

If Nick has, in fact, killed the guardian, his father-in-law might connect the dots and figure out that Nick is the one responsible for the guardian's death, as the wife would corroborate that Nick was the last person to visit.

There is a very clear parallel between Nick and June's actions, signaling that there might be another reunion in the cards for June and Nick, as June ends up asking Commander Lawrence for help after missing her ride with Luke.

Commander Lawrence might take June and Moira to his home in New Bethlehem, where Serena Joy Waterford (well, to-be-Waharton) and Nick (with his wife Rose) also live. Both Serena and Nick have a lot of involvement in New Bethlehem, so there is a very high chance that they will find out that Lawrence is helping June and Moira. There might be several reunions and implications to Lawrence deciding to help June and Moira by asking them to get in the trunk of his car, which only the next episodes will reveal.

It will be interesting to witness another June and Nick reunion, but hopefully it won't be too bad for either of them, as they're both stuck in very messy situations. Only time will tell what's written for these star-crossed lovers in The Handmaid's Tale series finale season.
