Chicago Med could bid farewell to one of its main cast members before the Season 10 finale. While fans were worried about a possible member quitting the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, Episode 7 might set the exit in motion.

Steven Weber's Dr. Archer is constantly struggling in Season 10 of the show after being announced as the ED co-head with Sarah Ramos' Dr. Caitlin Lenox.

Dr. Archer was announced in Season 6 as a trauma surgeon. After bit-part appearances on the show, he became one of the main medical procedural casts. While his work with Gaffney's E.D. has remained good over the years, his demotion in the latest episode puts his character's future in danger on the show.

While nothing is confirmed about Dr. Archer leaving Chicago Med, his demotion might be a set-up for the actor's exit.

More about Dr. Archer's future on the show in our story.

Dr. Archer's future is uncertain in Gaffney after Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 7

While there were problems between Dr. Archer and Dr. Lenox on the show, they ended on a pretty bad note in the recent episode.

Their differences started with the treatment of a patient named Jordan, whose rockslide at a disciplinary camp caused massive injuries. There were two options to treat the patient: medically and surgery.

While Archer wanted to treat the patient medically, Lenox believed that the patient needed urgent surgery, and she was also not willing to wait for his parent's consent for the same.

Eventually, Lenox's concerns are heard, and Jordan is taken into surgery by Dr. Samuel Abrams. However, he does not survive surgery and dies on the operation table. A furious Dr. Archer blames Lenox for his death because she did not listen to him and went with the surgery anyway.

Dr. Archer also voiced his issues with Director Sharon Goodwin and called Lenox unfit to head the ED because she does not listen to others and makes reckless decisions for the patients.

After listening to Archer's accusations against Lenox, Goodwin talks to other doctors at the ER about Lenox's behavior. While most doctors were neutral, Dr. Howard talked about Lenox to Goodwin.

She praised Lenox for her practical knowledge and how she has gained experience working under her in just one month. While she can be ''challenging at times'', Howard aims to be 'as badass as her' in the future.

This was enough for Goodwin to decide on the future, and she made Dr. Lenox as the sole chief of the E.D. She also demoted Dr. Archer to a regular attendee at Gaffney.

In the show's final moments, we see Dr. Archer drinking his sorrows away at Molly's after he learns about his demotion. An experienced surgeon having this fate in his professional career is bound to impact him.

The episode ends without making it certain whether Weber will continue in Chicago Med after his character's demotion or if this was a set-up to write off his character.

The chances of him leaving the show seem more likely after the promo for Episode 8, in which he shows Hannah a letter of resignation following his demotion. This makes his future highly uncertain in Gaffney and on the show.

Tune in to Chicago Med Season 10 Episode 8 on November 20, 2024, to learn about Archer's fate on the show.
