Sophie Turner is in talks to star as Lara Croft in a series adaptation of the Tomb Raider video game franchise created by Emmy-winning director Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Has the casting of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft been confirmed?

The long-awaited Tomb Raider series on Amazon Prime Video has moved a step closer to fruition with the casting of Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as Lara Croft.

As per the reports of Variety, Turner is "almost set" for the lead role, marking a major milestone in Amazon's alliance with Phoebe Waller-Bridges. It would be another role for one of the former Sansa Starks.

Everything to know about role of Lara Croft's role in Tom Raider

Angelina Jolie starred as Lara Croft in the 2001 video game adaptation and its 2003 sequel. While Tomb Raider is perhaps more iconic with Angelina Jolie, a 2018 reboot with Alicia Vikander was very well received when MGM lost the rights, making it impossible for Vikander to return for the sequel.

The new Tomb Raider series began its development phase when Phoebe Waller-Bridges was on Prime Video, part of a three-year deal worth around $20 million a year. The deal is now over, but Waller-Bridge remains attached to the project.

The original film is based on the popular Tomb Raider video game franchise. The show is centered on the iconic character of archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. After her father disappears and is presumed dead, she uncovers a family secret that could have catastrophic consequences for the world. This leads her on an adventure to Cambodia, where she must make a stark choice between bringing her father back and saving civilization.
