Intriguing villains are nothing new in the world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. Season 5 saw the introduction of another one who made a quick impression despite her late entry into the show.
Dawn Olivieri’s Sarah Atwood is the newest addition to the list of people who want hell for the Duttons. She is a corporate woman, and her character is shown to be confident and headstrong.
Sarah has impacted both the storyline and the audience despite her brief appearance so far.
Who is Sarah Atwood in Yellowstone?
Yellowstone Season 5 opens with John Dutton (Kevin Costner) being elected governor of Montana, much to his dismay. He only wanted to protect his ranch and not get involved in politics.
However, his win means that he would stop funding projects that harm the environment, which upsets Market Equities' Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver).
With the election results going completely opposite to what Caroline expected, she decides that the time has come to play dirty with Dutton, and that is when Sarah’s character is summoned.
She is formally introduced to the audience in the second episode of Yellowstone Season 5. From the time she appears on screen, her character shows awareness and potential for the job she’s hired for.
Sarah realizes that Jamie (Wes Bentley) is the weakest link among the Duttons. Therefore, she targets him to gain access to the family secrets.
Together with Sarah, Jamie plans the murder of John Dutton. A professional killer is hired through Sarah’s connections, and she tells the killer that the murder should look like suicide.
Once John is killed, Jamie realizes that he never wanted Sarah to execute the plan so quickly. John’s death deeply affects Jamie, but Sarah tells him there is no need for him to mourn as he is the young lion who will take over the old lion’s kingdom.
As initially John’s death is ruled as suicide, Sarah thinks she has safely made it. However, Beth and Kyce start digging into their father’s death and make the authorities reopen the case files as they realize it’s not a suicide. With John’s death now being considered a homicide, Sarah panics and tries to call Grant, the hitman she had hired to kill John.
However, Grant could not be contacted and Sarah has a fight with Jamie as well. Later, while Sarah was on a call with Jamie, a car pulls up behind Sarah and she is shot in the head. This incident brings an end to her character in Yellowstone Season 5.

Who plays the role of Sarah Atwood in Yellowstone?
Dawn Olivieri portrays the role of Sarah Atwood in Yellowstone Season 5. The actress previously worked in 1883, the prequel to Yellowstone, where she played Claire Dutton, John's ancestor's sister-in-law. Speaking of how her role as Claire in 1883 is different from Sarah in Yellowstone, the SEALS Team fame actress told Hollywood Reporter:

“Sarah, to me, is like a snake charmer. I see her offering up the melody of whatever is needed. She’s pretty gentle right now. And it’s kind of bothering me a little bit! Because I think that kind of a [gentle] character is kinda boring! But in playing her right now, I feel like one of those barrel racing horses that are at the gate that you’re trying to hold back, and they’re just pushing, pushing, pushing.”
