Once again, a woman will be chosen to fight vampires, demons, and all things dark in Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot. Per multiple reports, the reboot is currently in the works and closer to becoming a reality.
Supernatural drama lovers were introduced to the iconic slayer Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) in Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 1 in 1997. The show quickly gained popularity and is considered one of the most influential TV shows of its time.
At the heart of the show is the fictional town of Sunnydale, California, built on top of a deadly portal called Hellmouth. The portal attracts supernatural forces, and Buffy must fight them to protect the residents. While she always wanted to lead a normal life, Buffy gradually accepts her fate and starts fighting evil.
Since Gellar played the main role, fans might wonder if she's returning as the vampire-slaying heroine. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Sarah Michelle Gellar won't be returning as Buffy in Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot. Instead, the actress is expected to serve as an executive producer.
Even though Gellar won't be the focus of the reboot, she has secured a key role in the project, and her involvement will ensure the authenticity and preservation of the show's legacy.

If you're excited to dive back into Sunnydale, where Buffy Summers fought several evil forces, know that a young actress will be cast to play the leading role. This means that Sarah Michelle Gellar won't play her famous role but is connected to the reboot as an executive producer.
While the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is currently untitled, it's set to come out on Hulu and is described as "the next chapter in the Buffyverse." However, the creator of the original Buffy series, Joss Whedon, will reportedly have no involvement in the reboot due to allegations that he created a toxic workplace.
But this doesn't mean the director's chair is empty, as Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao has been reported to serve as the director for the new project. Along with Stellar, the writing duo Nora and Lila Zuckerman will also serve as executive producers and be responsible for the writing part.
How Sarah Michelle Gellar teased Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot
A few days back, on February 2, 2025, Sarah Michelle Gellar took to her Instagram and posted a picture on Instagram wearing the "yummy sushi pajamas." What's intriguing about her look is that she wore the same pajamas in Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 4.
The actress captioned the picture with a sushi emoji, igniting nostalgia among fans. The show ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and concluded with Buffy sharing her powers with other slayers. This way, she was able to create an army of slayers, ensuring that evil was always defeated and breaking the tradition of one slayer per generation.
