Times are great for The Punisher fans as a show focusing on Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle aka the Punisher has now been confirmed.

Bernthal had featured as The Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil and also had his own series by the same name that ran from 2017-2019. The upcoming show focusing solely on the Punisher was confirmed back in February, per The Hollywood Reporter.

While there is no confirmed release date for the Punisher Disney+'s special, it has been speculated that the show will be coming out sometime in 2026 along with Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

When might the Punisher Disney+ special come out?

As mentioned earlier, no release date has yet been confirmed for the upcoming Punisher Disney+ special. Like Daredevil was originally a Netflix show and Daredevil: Born Again is airing on Disney+, the same pattern can be seen with the upcoming special. The Punisher was a Netflix original, however, later Disney obtained its rights.

Talking about the upcoming special, Bernthal told The Hollywood Reporter,

“I care very deeply about Frank, I’m really grateful that I’m getting the opportunity to tell the story that I think the fans deserve. We’re giving it our all and we’re trying to tell a Frank Castle story that we’re going to turn our back on the audience — it’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be light, and I think it’s the version that this character deserves and I’m just beyond honored and grateful that we get the opportunity.”

He further added,

“It’s going to be dark; Frank has no interest in breaking out the darkness. It’s not going to be easy. I don’t know if that’s the Netflix tone then that’s what it’s going to be. It will not be Punisher-lite, I promise you that.”

His words have already made fans excited because Punisher has always been an intense character and getting a special on him is bound to be a gritty experience. Moreover, since the Punisher is returning in Daredevil: Born Again and the release date of the Punisher special is speculated to be around the second season of the same, the two stories can very well be connected.

More on the Punisher Disney+ special

Since nothing apart from the fact that the Punisher special will be happening has been confirmed, information about anything else, like the plot or the cast, is scarce at this moment. However, given its close association with Daredevil: Born Again, some characters like Matt Murdock himself and Karen Page can be expected to make appearances because both of them share history with Frank Castle aka Punisher.

As for the plot, the only available outline till now is what Bernthal has said. Given the fact that he is co-writing the series, it can be expected to be everything that he has envisioned. Besides Bernthal, Reinaldo Marcus Green is also in the writing team and will serve as the director.
