As Gen V Season 2 is under production, fans wonder if Patrick Schwarzenegger will return as Golden Boy/Luke Riordan from the first season. A spin-off of The Boys, Gen V's protagonists are students of Vought International's Godolkin University who uncover a dangerous conspiracy. Schwarzenegger appeared as Luke Riordan, the superhero Golden Boy, a top-ranked student at Godolkin.
Though he died in the very first episode of the show, he continued to appear throughout the rest of the season as a hallucination. This gives Patrick Schwarzenegger plenty of chance to return as Luke in Gen V Season 2. However, according to Schwarzenegger's interview with ScreenRant, he will not appear in the upcoming season.
What did Patrick Schwarzenegger say about a possible Gen V Season 2 return?
ScreenRant interviewed Patrick Schwarzenegger to promote his upcoming show, The White Lotus Season 3. In the interview, the actor, who will appear as one of the Ratliff siblings in the upcoming season, also spoke about his role as Golden Boy in Gen V Season 2. He answered that he wouldn't return in the second season because he was filming for the upcoming season of The White Lotus.
However, Patrick Schwarzenegger did not rule out the possibility of appearing in the future seasons of Gen V. This is what the actor told ScreenRant:
"No, I wish, but I was, we were actually filming White Lotus at the same time that they were filming Gen V. So it didn't work out. But maybe season three or some other time."
While Luke killed himself in the closing moments of the first episode of Season 1, that did not stop him from appearing throughout the season in flashbacks or even as a manifestation of Sam's consciousness. In the Season 1 finale, Sam's better side in the form of Luke tried to convince him to do the right thing. But Sam rejected that and joined Cate, laying the groundwork for The Boys Season 4.
In the previous season of The Boys, Sam and Cate worked for Homelander and assisted him in the coup. However, if Sam has a change of heart and breaks through Cate's control, we may see Patrick Schwarzenegger's Luke return in the future Gen V seasons after Season 2.
From the little we saw of him, Golden Boy might be a rare kind of supe in The Boys Universe. While most of the supes in that universe are evil, it appears that Golden Boy tried to stick to his heroic ideals, making his death in the first episode of Season 1 heartbreaking.
If Sam were to change and be willing to embrace his heroic side, Luke may return to the former's consciousness. This may turn the tide in favor of the heroes in The Boys universe.
What will Gen V Season 2 be about?
The Boys Season 4 ended on a somber note as our heroes are backed to a corner as Homelander has the political authority to round up his opponents. He is supported by Cate and Sam from Gen V. So, whatever the plot of Gen V Season 2 is, the events of The Boys will have a huge impact on it. And, the ending of this season will set up the fifth and final season of The Boys.
