The Penguin's finale saw Oswald Cobblepot emerge as the top criminal kingpin of Gotham City after navigating betrayals and forming new alliances following Carmine Falcone's death. The series is a direct follow-up to The Batman (2022) which first introduced Colin Farell as the notorious DC Batman villain.

Throughout the miniseries, viewers are offered an unavoidable rivalry between Oz and Sofia Gigante, as the two try to take control of Gotham's dark world. Sofia even attempts to kill her enemy through an explosion, but the Penguin makes it out alive.

However, this doesn't stop her from creating chaos, as Sofia continues manipulating Francis Cobb, who reveals that Oz killed his brothers. The flashback scenes in the last episode highlight Francis's guilt for ignoring her son's crimes.

The finale was packed with dark and emotional scenes, wrapping up the story of Oswald Cobblepot's struggles, and setting the stage for a new crime era for Robert Pattinson's upcoming The Batman 2.

What to expect from The Batman 2 after The Penguin finale

The finale of The Penguin has proven Oswald Cobblepot as one of the most formidable and ruthless crime bosses in Gotham with whom Batman will face off in The Batman 2. Oz didn't just kill his brothers, but by the end of the series, he pulled an unanticipated play by killing his sidekick Victor.

He was the greatest ally the Penguin ever had after stepping into the crime world, but Oz saw him as a weakness and eventually choked him to death. This way, viewers were offered a dive into his unpredictable and cold-blooded character.

Now that The Penguin has ended, many might wonder about Oz's position in The Batman 2. Considering Oz's ultimate win, here's what you can expect about the Batman villain:

1) Oz’s position of power

Oswald Cobblepot or the Penguin has finally transformed into an independent crime lord. His influence among the other gangs in Gotham describes Oz's power. This was notably seen when Link Tsai betrayed Sofia and held her captive for Oz in episode 8.

2) The introduction of Bliss

As seen in the miniseries, the psychedelic drug Bliss was initially manufactured in Oz’s lab and was destroyed. However, the drug is expected to make a comeback and Batman might find it hard to keep the dangerous substance off Gotham’s streets.

3) Introduction of new villains and super-criminals

Another tease given by Oz in The Penguin was a transition from traditional crime bosses like Falcone to psychopathic, costumed criminals. This will allow new villains to appear in The Batman 2, and further pave the way for Oz.

Oz's rise in Gotham is majorly possible due to the Caped Crusader's absence. However, his return to the film will likely address Batman's whereabouts during the Penguin's rise to power. Now that Oz is on top, Gotham will become even more chaotic and Batman will have to face new challenges.

Who sent a letter to Sofia at the Arkham Asylum in The Penguin finale?

As mentioned above, Sofia Gigante is betrayed by Tsai in the last episode after she asks other gangs to bring Oz to her and ends up being held captive. Oz takes Sofia with him. Little does she know they are on the way to the place she hates the most.

Not only this, but Oz even manages to get Sofia framed for all crimes in Gotham for the last seven days, after which Sofia is finally put into Arkham Asylum. Sofia meets Dr. Julian Rush once again who later brings her a letter saying:

"I brought your mail. Most of the usual – rants, poems, marriage proposals. This one's different, I think you should read it. It's from a woman named Selina Kyle, she says she's your half sister."

Interestingly, Sofia, who now hates her father, doesn't know that Carmine had another daughter– Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. This is an intriguing tease about Zoë Kravitz's role in the upcoming film.

The Penguin didn't reveal what Kyle wrote in the letter, but after learning about her relationship with Kyle, Sofia will make a move. The best thing she can do is join forces with her half-sister to stand against Oz.
