The show features Joanne (Bell) and Noah (Brody), two individuals who are completely different—Joanne, an outspoken podcast host, and Noah, a traditional rabbi.

They meet at a party and, despite their differences, feel an undeniable connection. At the time, Noah had recently broken up with his Jewish girlfriend, Rebecca. He and Joanne start getting along, leading to a friendly dinner and eventually sharing a kiss.

The show has several resemblances to the real-life couple. For instance, in an episode titled "The Ick," Simon meets Erin’s mother with a huge bouquet of sunflowers—a moment that mirrors a real-life event. Erin recalled this in an interview with Vulture:

"The flowers were so long, and they kept falling over. Sitting there, I was like, Well, if someone cares this much, then that feels like a weakness."

The sunflower incident was also common between the show and the real-life love story. Just like Noah, Simon also did not let the relationship fall apart over the sunflowers. In an interview, Erin once said to Vulture:

Simon was like, 'Get over it. I'm supposed to care what your parents think because I want to marry you.' I was so in love with him at that moment.

Nobody Wants This was first announced on March 1, 2023, and on May 15, 2023, the official release date of September 26, 2024, was revealed. The 10-episode series is now available for streaming on Netflix.
