Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in May 2026 and another familiar face from the MCU's past is set to join its cast. Hayley Atwell will be seen as Agent Peggy Carter in the upcoming film by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film will be a significant installment for the MCU. The film might showcase the consequences of multiverse incursions as suggested in previous MCU projects. Most importantly, the movie will come up with a cast that can surprise its fans and can also leave them nostalgic.
Hayley Atwell first played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger which was a significant role. Later, she made a cameo in The Winter Soldier as a middle-aged version of Peggy in the opening sequence of Ant-Man. Afterwards, Peggy again can be seen in Avengers: Endgame. Atwell has been excellent in the role therefore her return in Avengers: Doomsday can be a moment of thrill for the fans.
What all characters can be expected in Avengers: Doomsday
Many film details were announced at the San Diego Comic-on in July 2024. Avengers: Doomsday filming is expected to begin in mid-2025 and fans can expect major character appearances including Reed Richard played by Pedro Pascal and Sue Storm played by Vanessa Kirby.
Robert Downey Jr, the Iron Man, surprisingly will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. While the Infinity Saga revolved around Thanos as the main villain, the upcoming Doomsday will debut Doctor Doom as the new villain. This was also a matter of confusion for the fans as Robert is also Stark in Iron Man who saved the world in Avengers: Endgame. The MCU might seek a big collision of parallel universes in Avengers 5 and 6. This has led many fans to believe that Doctor Doom might be an alternate-universe version of Stark.
The Thunderbolts are also expected to appear in Avenger 5. Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man, joined by Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent. Olga Kurylenko stars as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen takes on the role of Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus appears as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Sebastian Stan also reprises his role as Bucky Barnes. Chris Evans joins but may not play Steve Rogers.
What Avengers: Doomsday is about?
In 2011 a comic book was released titled Ultimate Comics: Doomsday which showcases the Fantastic Four teaming up with the Marvel Superheroes to stop a mysterious villain to erase their timeline.
An official plotline of the film has not been announced but this comic book might provide a hint as to what is stored in the film for its fans.

However, it is important to keep in mind that the release date can shift if things don't line up as per the plan for the makers and the new creative team behind the movie. It will be Avenger's fifth film and it has already gone under many changes since its announcement in 2022 at San Diego Comic-Con.
Avengers: Doomsday is not the only film that is in development. The next release will be in 2027 of Avengers: Secret Wars.
