Good Omens is a fantasy-comedy series that’s based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It takes a witty approach on the unlikely friendship between an angel and a demon who are trying to prevent the apocalypse.

The first two seasons captured the interest of many. Following its success, Good Omens is all set for its third and final season. But there’s a twist. Recent developments have made fans wonder if there will be a Good Omens Season 3.

The answer is yes. However, it won’t be like the usual season. There have been major changes. The series creator, Neil Gaiman, will be leaving the production. Let’s look into what happened and what to expect from the final season.

The fate of Good Omens Season 3

It was back in December 2023, when season 3 of Good Omens was confirmed. But these plans for an entire season took a sharp turn after Gaiman’s bad press. He became embroiled in controversy.

Gaiman stepped back from the production of the series after some allegations made against him for sexual assault. This affected the series’ timeline as it paused for a while in the pre-production stage.

Despite all this, Good Omens Season 3 is still on. Just that the planned season has been condensed into a single 90-minute episode. It will also be the finale of the series. This news was announced in October by Prime Video.

Four women came forward to accuse the creator, showrunner and writer of Good Omens, Neil Gaiman. They accused him of non-consensual acts, and these accusations were detailed in a podcast by Tortoise Media.

The controversy did not only affect Good Omens, but also other projects associated with Gaiman. He has denied all allegations calling them “disturbing.”

What will the final episode be about?

Even though there won’t be a full-fledged season, the third one will be a feature-length episode. It will wrap up the story. According to Prime Video’s description, this finale will bring to life a long forgotten conversation between Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

Years ago, the two authors had mapped out ideas for what could happen next in the world of Good Omens. Fans will finally be able to see that vision realized.

The last episode will bring the duo of Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley back to our screens. The episode is set to begin production in early 2025 in Scotland.

It will be a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, and Narrativia. Rob Wilkins has been involved with keeping Pratchett’s legacy alive. He will be an executive producer along with BBC Studios’ Josh Cole.

With the exit of Gaiman, the new team will take over the production of Good Omens.

Along with Good Omens, Gaiman’s adaptation of the The Graveyard Book for Disney+ was shelved. Plus, Netflix decided to cancel Dead Boy Detectives after only one season due to low viewership.

For those who have not watched the first two seasons of Good Omens, they are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
