If showrunner and creator Alexi Hawley has his way, the series will be around even after 2028, when the show will turn ten.

In January 2025, Alexi Hawley sat down for an interview with TheWrap to promote the then-upcoming second season of The Recruit. Then, the conversation veered toward the ABC police procedural series. When asked about how many seasons The Rookie could have, Hawley said:

“My end goal for ‘The Rookie’ is ‘Grey’s Anatomy. I would love that show to keep going for the foreseeable future.”

Therefore, it seems that Hawley feels that he has several other storylines up his sleeve that could propel the Nathan Fillion cop drama for more than ten years.
