Roseanne's spin-off series The Conners concluded with its Season 7 finale on ABC on April 23, 2025.

After a failed revival of the original show, the spin-off series debuted in 2018 on the network and gained popularity, much like its predecessor. The show saw the return of almost all the characters in the titular family, sans Roseanne, who died due to an opioid overdose off-screen.

In May 2024, it was announced that the show would return with Season 7, marking the series' conclusion. Since The Conners concluded with its seventh season last night, it will not return for Season 8.

More on The Conners in our story.

The Conners will not return for Season 8, as the spin-off show concluded with Season 7

While the revival of the spin-off series was a miracle in itself, The Conners proved that it can continue to charm its audiences even without their matriarch. Following Roseanne Barr's controversial exit from the show, the spin-off continued to top the charts and garner high ratings.

In May 2024, the show was revived for a final and seventh season. It was a unanimous and deliberate decision on the makers' part, as they wanted to end the show on a high note. As executive producer Bruce Helford discussed with Deadline:

"This to everybody feels like the appropriate time. We’re going out on top. We’re the most watched comedy on ABC, we had a great season, and this just feels like the right time to do this."

Executive producer Dave Caplan added:

"We didn’t want to try to squeeze blood from the stone until it was over. We just wanted to go out strong on top when we were on top of our game. And that’s how we feel like we’re doing it on our terms."

How did The Conners end? Did Roseanne Barr appear in the Season 7 finale?

The Season 7 finale saw a befitting conclusion to every character's story. While the family was expecting to receive a hefty compensation from the pharmaceutical company responsible for Roseanne's death, things did not exactly go their way. The company instead issued them a check for $700.

Talking with Deadline, Caplan discussed the idea of this bittersweet ending for the family:

''The Conners aren’t going to win at the end, and also they’re symbolic of the struggling working class in our country who’s not going to win, either.''

While they were not compensated heavily, the family honored Roseanne at her grave and celebrated the finale with a $700 pizza party in their iconic living room. Dan broke the fourth wall and directly addressed the audience, bidding them goodbye.

While Barr did not appear in the Season 7 finale, the makers wanted to honor her legacy and character in the show, as Helford discussed:

''The family loved their matriarch. For the finale, we felt it was right to honor the character and honor Roseanne herself, who birthed the show. It was important to make that part of the end.''
