Judging by the release schedule of the last two seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, season 3 could drop in August or September 2026, after a two-year gap. Season one premiered on September 1, 2022, and season two arrived on August 29, 2024.

However, the final release date depends on the renewal decisions made by the creators and the streaming platform. Considering how season 2 has paved the way for a possible season 3, it's safe to say that the third season will bring another captivating storyline to our screens soon.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will pick up the storyline exactly where season 2 has just left off. In the season 2 finale, we see Sauron at his strongest, having gained control of the Nine Rings of Men and united the orcish army under his command.

After his confrontation with Galadriel, Sauron, in the form of Annatar, stands with Feanor's hammer and is ready to forge the One Ring. With Celebrimbor now dead, he will need to create the ring himself, staying true to the books.

In J.R.R. Tolkien's work, Sauron forges the ring in the fires of Mordor, while much of Middle-earth opposes him.

In the final scene of episode 8 of season 2, we see the elves, weakened by the siege of Eregion, with their numbers greatly reduced. Under the leadership of Elrond and Gil-galad, they have recovered from the ordeal and are ready to fight the Dark Lord once again. In season 3, we expect the allies to gather and make another attempt to bring Sauron down.
