Devil May Cry premiered on Netflix on April 3, 2025, and has already entered the top 10 charts in several countries. The adult animated series is an adaptation of Capcom’s eponymous video game franchise.

It tells the story of Dante, a demon hunter who becomes the only hope for humans when a dangerous, demon-obsessed villain wants to open the gates of hell to wreak havoc. The first season of the show features only eight episodes, each lasting around 30 minutes.

Audiences who have binged the show are now asking for more, wondering when there will be a Devil May Cry Season 2. While Netflix has not yet renewed the show for a second installment, there is still a possibility of the series being continued.

Devil May Cry Season 2: Renewal status and possibility

As of now, Devil May Cry Season 2 has not been officially announced by Netflix. However, fans need not be disappointed just yet, as Netflix does not usually confirm sequel seasons immediately.

Instead, the streaming platform takes weeks, and sometimes months, to analyze a show’s viewership ratings before deciding on its renewal. The first season of the animated series is off to a great start and has garnered good ratings along with critical acclaim.

This might convince Netflix to continue the show for another chapter. From a story perspective, the first season’s cliffhanger ending does call for a second season, as there are a number of plot points that still need to be resolved.

Meanwhile, series creator Adi Shankar had already expressed his interest in making Devil May Cry a multi-season project back in 2021. At the time, he stated in an interview that he had finished working on the scripts for ‘season 1’ and was willing to continue story arcs across multiple seasons.

Adi Shankar’s previous Capcom adaptation with Netflix, Castlevania, lasted for four seasons between 2017 and 2021, and it would not be a surprise if Devil May Cry also continues for several years.

Hence, all these factors point toward a high possibility of a second season, but the decision ultimately lies with Netflix, and we need to wait for an official announcement from the streaming giant.

If the series does get renewed for a sophomore installment soon, it is expected to take at least a year to be produced. Hence, a potential Season 2 of Devil May Cry could arrive on Netflix sometime in 2026.

What could Devil May Cry Season 2 be about?

Season 1 ended on a surprising note as Dante discovered that his twin brother, Vergil, was alive. Vergil was long presumed dead after he and his mother were attacked by a demon. However, he survived the attack and turned to the dark side.

Vergil has embraced his demonic instincts, while Dante remains human despite having demon blood in his veins. The two are now on opposite sides and will likely be pitched against each other going forward.

Hence, audiences can expect an epic clash between the brothers in the potential second season. As for the cast, the main voice actors would likely reprise their roles in the next season. These include Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary Ann Arkham.

However, Hoon Lee may not return as the White Rabbit, as the character is dead. More details on the casting will come out if and when Netflix officially announces the second season.

Devil May Cry is available to stream on Netflix.
