Bosch: Legacy, Prime Video's longest-running original production, ended very abruptly, to the surprise of its fans, who are now left wondering if there will be a Season 4 for the show. This mystery drama, essentially an extension of the original Bosch series and a part of the franchise, ran for three thrilling seasons, with the season finale premiere on April 16, 2025. The original Bosch series ran for 7 long seasons. So, in a way, Bosch: Legacy Season 3 was season 10 for the franchise. The question on everybody's mind is whether there will be a Season 4 for this show.
Considering the reality that the titular LAPD detective Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, is now out of the picture in this franchise, it makes sense that there will not be a Season 4 for this show. However, the fact that Bosch: Legacy is not coming back for a Season 4 does not mean that this is the last the audience is seeing of this police procedural franchise.
Here's everything we know about the future of the Bosch franchise.
Details about the Bosch: Legacy Season 4 Renewal

Viewers were convinced that Bosch: Legacy was all but confirmed for a renewed Season 4. However, it was revealed in September 2024 that the crime drama would not be returning for another season. Titus Welliver, who played the titular character Harry Bosch revealed in a conversation with Hollywood Reporter that the cast and production were already gearing up for another season, but it fell apart owing to a myriad of reasons.
"I got a call from them and they said they're not going forward. It was a pretty brief conversation. We all expressed our disappointment, but we've all been doing this long enough to know that could happen. Sometimes it's a myriad of reasons that I don’t necessarily understand. I do understand that given the economy and things like that, there are a lot of studios that have been experiencing budgetary restrictions. But, as far as that, I've never had a conversation where I sat down and said, 'Alright, tell me from point A to point B what [the decision is] based on."
Future of the Bosch Franchise: Is this the end for the crime drama?

Thankfully for the fans, the fact that there will not be a Bosch: Legacy Season 4 does not mean the end of the Bosch franchise. The franchise will be carried forward by a new Bosch spinoff titled Ballard. This spinoff will be a follow-up to Bosch: Legacy and continue the franchise, but it will not be a sequel following Harry Bosch.
Ballard will be following Renée Ballard, played by Maggie Q. Renée Ballard was introduced into the Bosch franchise at the end of the final season of Legacy, and her character stems from the many thriller novels by Michael Connelly, much like Harry Bosch. Maggie Q talked about the upcoming show in a conversation with TVLine, saying that:
"I will say that it’s a very different show, Ballard lives in Malibu, and she goes home to the beach. That’s her peace among the dark underbelly of her work. It’s an interesting juxtaposition. I hope that people will appreciate that this city’s a really dark place, but it’s also a geographically insanely beautiful place."
Welliver did confirm that he would be seen in a few episodes of Ballard. So, this is not the last we see of Harry Bosch. Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, and John Carroll Lynch have also joined the cast for this LA-based crime drama. The final episode of Bosch: Legacy premiered on April 16, 2025, and Amazon Studio is already gearing up for a summer 2025 release for Ballard with a brand new teaser trailer for the show.
All of the 7 seasons of Bosch and 3 seasons of Bosch: Legacy are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
