Netflix's acclaimed series Adolescence streamed all of its episodes on March 13, 2025. It is a miniseries created by British actor Stephen Graham and playwright Jack Thorne that's only four episodes long. Therefore, there won't be a fifth episode of this crime drama miniseries. So, the story of the Miller family concludes with the closing moments of the fourth episode.

This miniseries revolves around the Miller family, a common British family consisting of four: Eddie (father), Manda (mother), Lisa (daughter), and Jamie (son). The first episode opens with the arrest of 13-year-old Jamie, who is accused of killing a classmate, Katie Leonard. One of the most talked-about aspects of Adolescence is that each episode of the miniseries is shot in one take.

"When a 13-year-old is accused of the murder of a classmate, his family, therapist and the detective in charge are all left asking: what really happened?"

Does Adolescence have a fifth episode?

Simply put, no, there is no fifth episode of the series. As stated before, it is a four-part miniseries, and therefore this story has concluded. The last episode of the series gut-wrenchingly ends with a scene featuring a 50-year-old man breaking down over his teenage son's incarceration in the latter's bedroom. Eddie apologizes to his son's teddy bear (which serves as a substitute for Jamie).

There is some sort of cyclical quality to ending the miniseries in the bedroom where it began. Graham spoke about this cyclical nature during his interview with Tudum. Here's what the actor said:

“We knew that we wanted to end it in that room. We wanted the journey to finish where it began. This is where the person who Jamie became was created.”

Adolescence explained: Did Jamie really do it?

Yes, Jamie did commit the murder he is accused of, and it is confirmed so in the closing moments of the very first episode of Adolescence. Viewers and Jamie's father are shocked to see CCTV footage of his son stabbing Katie. This contrasts with the opening minutes of the series, where we are given the impression that Jamie looks innocent enough to not harm anyone.

Graham, who also plays the role of Jamie's father Eddie, explained this to Tudum:

“That was down to the casting. We wanted the audience to be on Jamie’s side and think, ‘Oh my God, this arrest is terrible. There’s no way he's done this.’ ”

But later said this while explaining the concluding minutes of the episode:

“We wanted the audience to feel the same feelings that Eddie feels when he looks at it and realizes what Jamie did.”

The four episodes of the miniseries unfold over a year. Jamie waits for a trial and, in the fourth episode of the series, informs Eddie about his plans to plead guilty. Hearing this, Manda and Eddie first come to terms with their son's predicament. But the closing moments of the miniseries end on a heartbreaking note as we see Stephen Graham's Eddie having a breakdown in his son's bedroom.
