In an interview with IndieWire, Bravo discussed how the fun, cheeky Gabriel of the initial seasons has turned melancholic over the last few seasons. He no longer resonates with the character and does not feel good about the direction his character is given on the show.
In Season 1, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him...always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone, it kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much...being slowly turned into guacamole.''
Bravo also tried to bring his personality to the character, but he feels that actors have little 'liberty' over playing the characters they are given. Bravo is grateful for the fame and recognition the show has brought for him but 'does not feel his character' anymore.
It makes me question if I want to be part of Season 5 […] because my contract ends at Season 4. I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore.''

What happened to Gabriel in Emily in Paris Season 4?
Seeing everything that happened with Gabriel in Emily in Paris, Bravo's feeling disconnected from his character is not wrong. After thinking Camille is pregnant with his child, he juggles a test relationship with Emily while caring for Camille.
During a ski trip on a mountain, he leaves Emily alone (who is a learner) and goes to chase after Camille. After Emily realizes that he will always prioritize Camille because of their child, she decides to leave the relationship.
