Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 finale is just a few days away, and after the release of Episode 13, many might wonder if the Dutton Ranch prophecy will soon come true. If you've been curious about the same, make sure to dive deeper and explore the ominous warning and how it might come true.
The Dutton prophecy is one of the key elements in the Yellowstone universe that connects the lead series with its prequel, 1883. It revolves around the Dutton's cherished ranch and their potential dark future.
The Dutton prophecy originates from the final episode of 1883, in which James Dutton, the ancestor who established the Dutton family’s claim over Paradise Valley, made a deal with Spotted Eagle, a Native American elder.
Spotted Eagle tells James that he can use the old crow hunting area, known as the Paradise Valley, to bury his daughter Elsa and settle with his family on the land. However, it comes with a cost. Spotted Eagle delivers a warning:
"In seven generations, my people will rise up and take it back from you."
Consumed by the loss of his daughter and desperate to find a resting place for her, James Dutton showed no hesitation and replied, "In seven generations, you can have it." He couldn't focus on the long-term consequences for his descendants, and the deal marked the beginning of the Dutton family's ownership of the Yellowstone ranch and their foretold fate.
With Tate Dutton representing the seventh generation in the current timeline, the question looms: will the Dutton prophecy finally come to pass in the Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 finale? Let's find out.
Will the Dutton prophecy come true by the end of Yellowstone?
Season 5, Episode 13, "Give the World Away," hints at the possibility of the Dutton prophecy getting fulfilled by the end of the show. If this happens to be true, the Duttons, who have been the owners of the beloved ranch for decades, will have to return it to Montana’s Native American population—the actual owners of the land.
As previously mentioned, Spotted Eagle warned that in seven generations, which is now being represented by Tate Dutton, the ranch will go back to its owners. In Episode 13, his father, Kayce Dutton, feels a moral responsibility to act on the prophecy, as his mysterious plan involves giving away the ranch.
By the end of the penultimate episode, Kayce is considering a drastic move to save the ranch. He then asks Beth what would happen if he wanted to buy her expensive car for just $1. This hints at his plan to sell the ranch for almost no price. Curious Beth asked Kayce about who the recipient would be, to which her brother smiled and asked for a day to finalize his decision.
Though Kayce doesn't confirm selling the ranch, he seems to have a candidate, and even Beth approves of his plan with a kiss on her brother's cheek. The episode hints at Kayce transferring back the ranch to the Broken Rock tribe, led by Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty.

How Kayce could potentially fulfill the Dutton prophecy in Yellowstone
Throughout the series, Kayce Dutton has constantly shown respect and alliance with the Broken Rock tribe, especially through his bond with Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty. If he decides to give Yellowstone back to its original owners or the tribe, it will be a way to prove his respect for their culture and tradition.
Earlier in Season 4, Kayce had a few visions, and while explaining them to Monica, he explained seeing two paths with one leading to "the end of us." And now in Season 5, he's yet to make a decision, hinting at the fulfillment of the Dutton prophecy.
He could potentially fulfill the prophecy in two ways:
1) Return or share the ranch: Kayce has the option to share or return the ranch to the Broken Rock tribe, honoring Spotted Eagle's prediction.
2) Maintaining ownership: Being Dutton by blood, Kayce could still keep the ranch under his family's name, making a satisfying resolution.
However, the prediction's fulfillment is currently uncertain, injecting fans with curiosity about the finale. If the prophecy comes true, it will offer a meaningful conclusion to Taylor Sheridan's drama and hope for a new beginning for the Duttons.
