Paramount+ Showtime's Dexter: Original Sin serves as a prequel series to the hit show Dexter, which followed the forensic analyst with the Miami Police Department by day and a vigilante killer by night.
Since Dexter acts a canon and parent show for this prequel series, Original Sin has managed to stay true to it and include many of the storylines the show has established. One of these storylines concerns Charlotte Rampling's Dr. Evelyn Vogel, who was introduced in Season 8.
She was a neuropsychiatrist who specialized in helping psychopaths, and it was revealed that she helped Harry in Dexter's young years when he was starting out as a serial killer.
And since the prequel series is in Dexter's early killer days, it was expected that Vogel would appear as the canon established. But it looks like makers have decided to change this storyline, as Evelyn Vogel is nowhere to be seen in Dexter: Original Sin.
More on Evelyn Vogel's absence from Dexter: Original Sin in our story.
Dr. Evelyn Vogel should have been an important character in Dexter: Original Sin as established from its parent show
Dr. Evelyn Vogen was introduced in Dexter Season 8, but it was established that Dexter's father, Harry, was in communication with him during his son's early killing days, which makes her an important character in Dexter: Original Sin.
In Season 8 of the parent show, it was established that Dexter met Vogel, who revealed that his father, Harry, met him when he started showing his killer instincts, and he established the Code for his son with Vogel's help.
These meetings between Harry and Vogel were also documented in videotapes, where Harry was seen discussing his son's first few kills and asking Vogel for her advice on how to handle and control him. According to this storyline, Vogel should have already made an appearance in Dexter: Original Sin, and Harry should have been consulting her about her son's killing spree.
However, like many changes from the canon, the makers seem to have ignored this Season 8 storyline, as Vogel has not yet been introduced in the show.
Dexter: Original Sin also changed Dexter's first killings as seen in Vogel's videotapes
Apart from this, the show also changed one major storyline connecting to Vogel, where it was revealed that Dexter began his killings while he was in college. But as seen in the prequel series, Dexter's first victim was Nurse Mary, whom he killed days before his graduation.
In addition, as seen in Vogel's tapes, Harry revealed that Dexter's third victim was a drug dealer, but it seems like the show is also changing this storyline, as Dexter's third victim in Dexter: Original Sin is Mad-dog, who was a mafia hitman.
But he was not exactly his third victim, as before he could kill him, he was run over in an accident. But still, we do not see a drug dealer as Dexter's third kill.
While Vogel's character could have been an important addition to Dexter's life, the makers chose to skip her in the prequel series, maybe to make Harry the sole bearer of his son's killing instincts and the sole person to train him and make him the man we meet in the parent show.
