Is Dina pregnant in The Last of Us Season 2? Speculations explored

The Last of Us Season 2 aired its third episode, "The Path", on April 27, 2025. This episode serves as the quiet after the storm that was the second episode of this season. It must be noted that Jackson had managed to barely survive a devastating invasion by a horde of infected people that also included bloaters. But the town now has to rebuild without any help from their foreman, Joel, who died last episode.

But just because the episode was largely uneventful doesn't mean that it didn't feature any important development. First, Ellie begins the quest for revenge against Abby and every other member of her crew. She and Dina leave Jackson and head towards Washington to locate Abby.

Earlier in this episode of The Last of Us Season 2, Dina revealed the identities of Joel's killers to Ellie. Dina actress Isabela Merced discussed her approach to this scene with Bella Ramsey's Ellie in an interview with Variety that was published on April 27, 2025:

“Dina tames her. Dina absolutely knows Ellie through and through and knows the shift in Ellie’s eyes or in her body language that would indicate a potential outburst. That’s why I’m so composed in the scene. I had to sort of lock into when a parent has to share some bad news with a kid, that was kind of what I was thinking of.”

But one moment that went under the radar of many viewers was in the last act of this episode, as Ellie and Dina come across a group of dead Seraphites. There, the sight of a dead Seraphite girl causes Dina to vomit. This visceral reaction has fans theorizing if she is pregnant in The Last of Us Season 2, like she is during this point in Part II of the game. While the pregnancy is unconfirmed, this scene hints at it.

Here's why Dina in The Last of Us Season 2 might be pregnant

It is important to note that while the episode opens with the immediate aftermath of the last episode, after the opening credits, there is a time jump of three months. In the last act of The Last of Us Season 2 episode "The Path", Dina and Ellie leave Jackson and head to Seattle to confront Abby. On this journey, Ellie and Dina talk about several things.

At one point, Ellie brings up that Dina will patch things with Jesse, and thus their kiss from the first episode might not matter. To this, Dina responds that she is already back with Jesse, hinting that she might be pregnant. But a major hint at her pregnancy is her reaction to the sight of the dead Seraphite girl. Dina says that it was the smell that made her vomit more than the sight of the body.

Dina, talking about the strong smell, made several viewers theorize that she might have gotten pregnant in the three months between episodes 2 and 3 of The Last of Us Season 2. Plus, if this season is adapting the second game that was released in 2020, Dina is probably pregnant with Jesse's baby. But it is unknown if Dina is aware of her pregnancy or not.

Dina's pregnancy makes Jesse's death in the game tragic

Like in The Last of Us Season 2, the game it is based on, The Last of Us Part II, features a complicated love triangle between Ellie, Dina, and Jesse. Jesse and Dina are in an on-again, off-again relationship. Dina and Ellie share a more flirtatious relationship at the beginning of the game, and just like in the second episode, Joel dies very early in the game, but with Tommy being there instead of Dina.

However, in the latter half of the game, Jesse is shockingly and abruptly killed by Abby. This ultimately resolves the love triangle as Ellie, Dina, and Jesse's son live together. But that's in the game, and showrunners Druckmann and Mazin might change Jesse's fate in the HBO series.
