Netflix's new docuseries, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey by Joe Berlinger will reportedly explore the chilling murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey in her Colorado home, almost 30 years back. The case has been front page news for a long time and still remains unsolved.
However, the upcoming three-part crime docuseries of Netflix will reportedly revisit the incident with different perspectives. It will also cover interviews with crucial individuals involved in the investigation.
On the production team of Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey, we have Craig D’Entrone, Jen Isaacson, Jon Kamen and Tim Young alongside Berlinger who have confirmed that the series is set to be premiered on Netflix on November 25, 2024. The official synopsis of Cold Case: Who killed JonBenet Ramsey reads:
"Nearly 30 years since her murder, a three-part Netflix series revisits the death of JonBenét Ramsey, the child beauty queen killed in her Colorado home, featuring interviews with key figures including her father."
What happened to 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey?
28 years back, on the day of December 26, 1996, a 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey went missing from her Colorado home. Her parents John and Patsey Ramsey, shortly after finding a ransom note left behind, realised that their youngest child had been abducted.
Later that day, JonBenet's body was discovered by her father in the basement. In a horrifying turn of events, it was revealed that she had been s*xually assaulted and murderd in cold blood, right within the confines of her home. According to the autopsy report, JonBenet Ramsey had been strangulated and also had a skull fracture. Furthermore, there were signs of injury to her private parts.
Who were the prime suspects in the initial investigation?
As per initial investigation by the Boulder, Colorado Police, the members of the Ramsey family were the prime suspects. There was another theory that there might had been an intruder involved.
Moreover, a neighbour of the Ramseys had heard a young girl scream from their house, on the day of the murder. But, the investigators were reportedly incompetent in handling a homicide situation and very soon, the whole incident turned out to be a national obesession.
The DNA extracted from blood samples found on JonBenet Ramsey's clothes belonged to an unidentified male. But, it was not one of the Ramseys'. Eventually, this lead also went cold with no further validation.
Following a number of turns in the investigation, unproved theories, defamation lawsuits and a false confession, the case still remains unsolved. But, Berlinger's Cold Case: Who killed JonBenet Ramsey will supposedly provide a different angle to the investigation after almost three decades.
What do we expect to see in Netflix's new docuseries?
According to reports, Cold Case: Who killed JonBenet Ramsey will explore the misjudgement of law enforcement. It will further bring to light how the whole investigation has been mishandled by media over the years - one of the many reasons why the mystery still prevails.
The series will take a rather direct approach towards the investigation, feature key interviews and involve the Colorado authorities in a way that can actually solve the case. As the deceased's family awaits long-due justice, the announcement of the crime series has raised much speculation around how the creators will help solve the riddle.
Cold Case: Who killed JonBenet Ramsey will be available for streaming on Netflix from November 25, 2024.
