Camilla Figg will return in Dexter: Original Sin

A young version of Camilla Figg will appear in Dexter: Original Sin. Actress Sarah Kinsey was roped in to play the character in September 2024. She will be stepping into the shoes of Margo Martindale, who played the role in Dexter.

Camilla works as the file clerk at Miami Metro and was a close friend of Harry Morgan, Dexter Morgan’s adoptive father. She has known Dexter since his childhood, so it makes sense that the character will be making an appearance on Dexter: Original Sin.

Camilla's character could help in exploring how Dexter turned into a sinister being. In the original series, Camilla helps Harry protect Dexter, even though she does not know about Dexter’s tendency to kill. Her loyalty to Harry and her access to Miami Metro's case files made her a trustworthy person in Dexter's life.

In the prequel, it might be revealed how much Camilla knows about Dexter's troubled plans and whether she does something to help Harry guide him. Her character could also reveal new details about Harry Morgan.

Actor Christian Slater, who plays Harry, has said there are secrets about his character’s actions that Dexter does not know yet. Camilla could be the one who explains these secrets.

Meanwhile, the show could also delve into her relationship with Harry, revealing if they were just friends or more than that. Hence, Camilla could aid in explaining Dexter’s backstory and help the audience understand how he became a serial killer in Dexter: Original Sin.

Camilla Figg’s relationship with Dexter

Margo Martindale starred as Camilla Figg in the original series, which aired from 2006 to 2013. While she appears in only five episodes, her relationship and support for Dexter Morgan become one of the highlights of the show. She works as a records supervisor and is one of Dexter’s trusted colleagues.

Dexter often brings her donuts and persuades her to let him borrow case files. Though Camilla senses that Dexter is different, she is not aware that he is using the files to pick out his victims. She is also very loyal to her longtime friend, Harry Morgan.

In one of the episodes, Camilla worries about losing her job when Sgt. Doakes questions her about a missing file. Dexter then steps in to protect her, showing that he cares for her as much as she does for him.

By season 3, Camilla’s health declines after she is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. She shares her last wish with Dexter, saying she wants to have the perfect slice of key lime pie. As her suffering worsens, Camilla also signals Dexter to help her die.

At first, Dexter struggles with his emotions, but he eventually agrees to fulfill Camilla's request. He brings her a perfect slice of pie and secretly laces it with euthanizing agents. Camilla eats it, thanks him, and passes away peacefully. Before she dies, she reassures Dexter that she understands his actions.

Dexter: Original Sin is slated to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13, 2024.
