Dexter: Original Sin is a prequel to the original Dexter, which ended its run in 2013. The events of Dexter: Original Sin takes place fifteen years before the first season of Dexter, in the early '90s in Miami.

The prequel follows a young Dexter Morgan, played by Patrick Gibson, as he finishes his education and joins the Miami Police Department as an intern, learning his trade of crime scene investigation.

Despite being a prequel, Dexter: Original Sin doesn't shed much light on Dexter's biological relations including his relationship with his brother Brian Moser. As of now, Brian Moser hasn't appeared on Dexter: Original Sin and was last seen during his death at the end of the first season finale of the original show.

Despite not being present in the show, fans of Dexter: Original Sin were recently intrigued when the second episode, Kid In A Candy Store, featured a Brian Moser lookalike who walked up to Dexter at a restaurant.

The character arc of Brian Moser is remarkably bleak as he was separated from Dexter at a young age and was brought up in a psychiatric hospital until the age of twenty-one. He later went on to become the Ice Truck Killer.

Why was Brian Moser separated from Dexter?

According to Dexter lore, Brian Moser has had a bloody past right from the get-go. Brian and Dexter's biological mother Laura Moser worked as an undercover agent for Harry Morgan and the police. Harry used Laura to infiltrate the ring of Hector Estrada.

Once Hector found out about this, he had Laura killed brutally with a chainsaw inside a freight container. As a show of his retribution, he locked up little three-year-old Dexter and an adolescent Brian inside the same container drenched in their mother's blood.

The two brothers were locked in for a while before Harry eventually found them and came to their rescue. This is where the life stories of Dexter and Brian go their separate ways.

While Dexter was seen as a little toddler who still had time to forget about the horrors of his mother's murder, Brian was considered to be irredeemable by Harry.

As a result, Harry Morgan ended up adopting Dexter as his son and brought him into his family where Doris and their daughter Debra comforted him with the warmth of a family. On the other hand, Brian was given up to be taken care of by the state.

He was sent to a psychiatric facility in Tampa where he stayed till he turned twenty-one. Following his release from the facility, his emotional scars caught up with him and he eventually became one of the most notorious serial killers on the show, the Ice Truck Killer.

Brian Moser lookalike spotted on Dexter: Original Sin

The second episode of Dexter: Original Sin contains an interesting scene where Dexter is at a restaurant along with his friends Masuka, Watt, and Batista during lunch. A man bearing a striking resemblance to Brian Moser then walks up to Dexter and asks him if the seats around him are empty.

Dexter responds in the negative, stating that they belong to his friends who are chatting with the owner of the restaurant at the moment. The actor playing the character of the lookalike is Roby Attal.

Dexter: Original Sin is exclusively available on Paramount+ with Showtime.
