Chicago Fire is an American drama television series broadcast on the NBC network. Derek Haas and Michael Brandt are the minds behind the show’s creation. The plot of the show revolves around the personal and professional lives of firefighters and paramedics at Firehouse 51.

The cast of Chicago Fire is adept at giving the impression that they're fire safety experts. Yes, Anthony Ferraris is a real-life firefighter. Anthony "Tony" Ferraris made his appearance in 2012 and since then maneuvers Rescue Truck 3, he puts out high-rise fires, jokes with the Firehouse 51 crew, and poses as a convincing firefighter on the show.

Ferraris brings authenticity to the NBC series Chicago Fire. Unlike most of the cast, he had no acting experience before his role in the series. However, his real-life experience helps him portray the firefighter character perfectly in the Chicago area.

Ferraris is a firefighter at the Chicago Fire Department. He is an engineer assigned to Rescue Squad 2 at Firehouse 91 in the Avondale area of Chicago.

Anthony’s acting career began when the firefighters' union sent out an email to firefighters in the CFD about Chicago Fire looking for extras. Since his debut, he started driving the Rescue Squad 3 truck but soon got his lines. He has appeared in over 200 episodes of the show and a few episodes of Chicago PD and Chicago Med.

In an interview with Wolf Entertainment, Anthony Ferraris remembers how his journey in the show lengthened.

“I started out as an extra and then Derek Haas approached me around Episode 5 or 6 and asked me to read for him, and then they started writing me in."

Ferraris plays himself in the show. His character is very close to who he is in real life. Ever since he was a child, Ferraris wanted to be a firefighter because he liked helping people and the excitement of facing dangerous situations. Luckily for him, he did well enough in the entrance test to join the team straight away.

For Anthony, landing the role of Tony Ferraris in Chicago Fire was pure coincidence. In an interview with Wolf Entertainment, Ferraris tells the story of how he ended up on the show: his friend showed him the email from the Firefighters Union and asked whether he would accompany him to audition, the creators liked him and cast him as an extra; he never really expected that this would lead to the recurring role he now has.

On the first day, the crew was shocked to find that none of the cast could drive the car. Steve Chikerotis, the show's technical advisor and an old friend of Anthony's, approached him about driving. Anthony agreed and got the part.

Ferraris was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, but he also had the skills they needed. He alone brings a sense of authenticity to the show that another actor might not. The producers recognize this and encourage him to just be himself on set.
