The online post about Squid Game Cinematic Universe has no credible sources attached
A social media post circulated online steeped in rumors about the alleged timeline of Squid Game Cinematic Universe. It stated that Netflix will be launching 4 more shows till winter 2028; Squid Game 3, Squid Game 1987, Squid Game USA, Squid Game 28th and Squid Game World. It suggested that the four sequels will explore the history of the game going on since 1988.
The post was shared multiple times. One video has 8,76,000 views while another has 5,50,000 views. But, despite the extent it is thrilling for the fans the post stands fake. On delving deep into the web of people who shared the same, the post has no link to Squid Game's original makers or Netflix. In addition, no Squid Game stakeholders have come forward to claim the same.
However, the director of the series, Hwang Dong-hyuk, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, recently suggested that he is thinking something along the lines of a spin-off. Therefore, this might be the reason behind fans coming up with an exaggerated claim of Squid Game Cinematic Universe:
“If the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spinoff.”
He also said that he is "tossing around an idea" about making something on what happened between seasons 1 and 2 as there is a 3-year gap.
Squid Game's franchise is going to continue, what is next?
It is already been announced that season 3 will be Squid Game's last season as the director feels that all the substance from the story has now been extracted. But, keeping in mind the viewership, Netflix has some plans to continue the franchise. however, the future is still unclear as nothing is official yet.
David Fincher may be making an American version of the game, to which the director responds that he respects Fincher and would never mind him making a remake or spin-off of Squid Game:
“I think he’ll make a great spinoff or something. So I’m just curious [to] know what he’s going to make based on Squid Game, so I’m looking forward to it. He’s expanding my world, but it’s still my world.” he said to The Wrap.
Squid Game Season 3 is set to release in 2025 probably in June. Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 (Reality Show) is also dropping this year.
