Steve Asbell, the longtime Fox executive who became president of the division in 2020, hinted that discussions about a follow-up to Alien: Romulus are actively taking place. As per him, there is already a "sequel idea" in development. The plan for the sequel will also feature a plan to bring back Fede Álvarez.
Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, highlighted the chemistry and appeal of the film's central characters. The studio’s intention is clear: to build on the successful reception of Romulus by delving further into the characters' storyline.
Asbell was interactive with the script of the upcoming movie; he mentioned that,
Wow, where do people want to see them go next?”
When it was asked whether or not a sequel would be made, he replied, saying,
“All of this success gives us equity and momentum to sort of take these shots.”
When asked about the possible plot of the sequel, he teased:
"We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces."
Furthermore, Asbell emphasized that the sequel will focus heavily on the evolution of Rain and Andy's relationship as the two characters face even greater threats.
