Invincible has concluded its third season with the eighth episode titled "I Thought You'd Never Shut Up". It picks up right after the previous episode ended, with the arrival of the Viltrumite warrior Conquest and Mark flying toward him for a confrontation. As their punch lands, it causes a destructive sonic boom.

Half of this Invincible Season 3 episode is dedicated to the brutal and devastating battle with Conquest, during which Mark sustains painful injuries. Additionally, Atom Eve comes dangerously close to death as Conquest stabs her in the gut with his bare hands. However, she survives due to her powers. Finally, Conquest is taken down, but that doesn’t mean everything is fine—the looming Viltrumite invasion is still a major threat.

Beyond the Viltrumites, Invincible Season 4 also hints at other looming dangers, such as Damien Darkblood and the Sequids. The episode synopsis reads:

"With the world still reeling, a dangerous stranger arrives - testing Mark to his limits and beyond."

What happens in the Invincible Season 3 finale?

As mentioned before, Invincible's third season concludes with an intriguing setup for Season 4. However, beyond just setting up future events, the finale also features several key developments in its main plot. Here are some of the major moments from the Invincible Season 3 finale:

Conquest vs Invincible

This episode showcases exactly why fans of Robert Kirkman comics were so excited to see Conquest in the series. Unlike other Viltrumites introduced so far, he is weary of the empire. Instead, he reveals that he conquers planets simply because he enjoys doing so, making him all the more sinister. His ruthlessness is further emphasized when he discloses that even the people of Viltrum fear him, leaving him isolated.

Throughout the battle, Conquest inflicts devastating injuries on Mark, Oliver, and even Atom Eve. He nearly rips Oliver apart, breaks Invincible's legs and hands, and delivers what appears to be a fatal blow to Atom Eve. Enraged, Mark smashes Conquest’s face, seemingly killing him. However, the episode’s ending reveals that Cecil has secretly imprisoned an unconscious Conquest to study him and learn how to defeat the Viltrumites.

Mark, however, remains unaware of Conquest’s captivity, believing him to be dead.

Atom Eve unleashes her "real" power

Conquest’s attack on Atom Eve initially appears fatal, leading viewers to believe she has died. However, her body begins to heal itself. Later, she explains to Mark that mental blocks had previously restricted her powers, but under extreme trauma, she was able to break past them. This suggests that Atom Eve may now be even more powerful than Mark.

It’s also worth noting the similarities between Atom Eve and X-Men’s Jean Grey—they both have red hair and possess abilities that allow them to survive seemingly impossible situations.

D.A. Sinclair's Reanimen

D.A. Sinclair has new Reanimen to experiment on. In the previous episode, Angstrom Levy unleashed eighteen evil Mark Grayson variants from across the multiverse onto this Earth. By the end of the three-day multiversal war, only eight of them survived. Cecil then hands over the bodies of the ten fallen variants to Sinclair, who will resurrect them as his new Reanimen.

Until now, all of Sinclair’s Reanimen were human. But now, for the first time, they will include half-Viltrumite subjects.

Looming threats

The closing moments of Invincible Season 3 serve primarily as setup for Season 4’s villains. The first major threat is the horde of Sequids, led by the possessed Rus Livingston.

Meanwhile, the mid-credit scene brings back Damien Darkblood, who was last seen in Invincible Season 1, Episode 4 ("Neil Armstrong, Eat Your Heart Out") when Cecil exiled him to hell. In this scene, Darkblood summons a demonic overlord, offering him a deal—he can help the overlord reclaim his throne in hell by providing the body of a Viltrumite. However, it remains unclear whether Darkblood is referring to Omni-Man or Mark.

The third season of Invincible is now available to stream in its entirety on Prime Video. Binge the entire season while we wait for the highly anticipated next season, which was renewed in July 2024.
