What is the true story behind Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter?
Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter is a true documentary about a mother's determined search for her long-lost daughter. In 1989, when she was 17, Tarkanian decided to give her baby up for adoption. Years later, she discovers her missing daughter and joins forces with an amateur detective and local authorities to find the truth.
They worked together for over 10 years to uncover what happened. The film explores the strong bond between mothers and daughters and the incredible power of a mother's instincts.
Charlize Theron's producer was inspired by the resilience and determination of the Tunkerian Hound Dogs, who overcame countless challenges, ultimately triumphing over adversity. He stated;
“ Cathy was resilient and followed her intuition all the way to the end to get answers about her daughter.”
In April 2010, Cathy Tarkanian got a letter that would change everything. A social worker wrote to tell her that the daughter she'd given up for adoption 35 years earlier had gone missing from her new home back in 1989. Cathy had to know what happened, so she worked with an amateur detective and local authorities to find her daughter. This search would last 10 years.
White and his team's journey for Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter began in Michigan in 2022, where they met Tarkanian, a determined mother who never gave up on her daughter despite the odds.
