The Voice Season 26 kicked off another round of Playoffs on November 25, 2024, where the coaches Snoop Dogg and Reba McEntire sent their team to compete in an intense battle. The Playoff Part 2 allowed the coaches to select only 2 performances from their team with the help of the "Mega mentors." Simone Biles, the Olympian, joined Snoop Dogg, and Country artist Lainey Wilson joined Team Reba.
Simone Biles was an "unexpected" choice as a playoff advisor, however, Snoop Dogg believed that her experience in performing under pressure and her skill to prepare for goals diligently would help his team to overcome the high-pressure Playoffs. The Voice fans' reactions were a mixed bag when it came to witnessing Simone Biles as a mega mentor in a singing reality TV competition.
Some of them could not hold back the excitement and others were confused as to how Simone will help the artists in the Playoffs. The fans came up with their responses on X, formerly known as Twitter, and shared their outlook on the same. One fan took to X and commented, expressing intrigue:
"Very interesting choice bringing Simone Biles as a mega mentor for The Voice."
"what a great night having Simon Biles to speak with contestants about adversity. What a night!" commented another fan, praising Simone Biles.
"Snoop Dogg’s guest mentor on the playoffs on The Voice US season 26 is gymnast Simone Biles she isn’t a musician but may give her feedback as to how she see snoops contestant should be performing" commented another fan.
However, some fans were not satisfied with Simone Biles being called as a Playoff mentor to help Team Snoop Dogg. Fans questioned her credentials as she has no previous singing track record. One fan commented:
"Don't get me wrong. Simone Biles seems like an awesome person to hang out with, but we've never heard her sing a single note, so having her on The Voice makes no sense unless she's going to follow in Carly Patterson's steps &release an album after her gymnastics career."
"I get the Simone Biles is an amazing athlete with many Olympic medals, but her being a “coach” on The Voice is a huge stretch of the imagination and seems like a chance to fulfill their contract with her and that’s it. #Disappointing" commented another fan.
"Ok I don’t really have a problem with Simon biles in general as a celebrity, but why is she qualified to be a mentor on a show about singing, #TheVoice #VoicePlayoffs" commented another The Voice fan on X.
Snoop Dogg choose Jeremy Beloate and Christina Eagle in The Voice 26 Playoffs Part 2
Team Snoop Dogg had 5 artists to choose from: Christina Eagle, Aliyah Khaylyn, Austyns Stancil, Mikaela Ayira, and Jeremy Beloate. In the Playoffs, the coaches had to narrow down their team of 5 to 2. Snoop Dogg was emotional with the journey of all five artists, and when asked by Carson Daly how he felt, Snoop Dogg replied:
"I feel good because they all did an exceptional job. Thank you for doing your best and being your best at all times. Whatever happens, I would love to see you making real whackers because that is how much i believe in all 5 of you."
After all five artists performed,
- Christina: Fancy by Reba
- Aliyah: I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston
- Austyns: Adore by Prince
- Mikaela: Love by Keyshia Cole
- Jeremy: The Impossible Dream by Josh Groban
Snoop Dogg chose Jeremy Beloate and Christina Eagle as the winners. Snoop Dogg said Jeremy was a "natural-born live performer” and “knows how to control his voice and movements on stage." Christina's potential to grow and perform old-school country music led Snoop Dogg to choose her over other artists.
The Voice 26 will air Playoffs Part 3 on November 26, 2024 on NBC.
