Joining the long list of unforgettable contestants, Sophie Powers made sure her time on American Idol wouldn't be easily forgotten. The 20-year-old Canadian pop singer and Instagram model caused a stir with her original song "STFU," which quickly went viral, even after her elimination.

In an interview with Gold Derby, Sophie opened up about her whirlwind experience. She sent a message to her lovers and haters, explained the mystery behind her nose bandage, and shared her thoughts on the judges.

“For the lovers, you guys are real ones,” she says.
“For the haters, I don’t blame you — but in da clurb we all fam.”

From unexpected side quests to viral moments, Sophie’s time on American Idol wasn’t about chasing a win — it was about making an impact her own way, with a little humor and a lot of authenticity.

Sophie Powers went into American Idol knowing she couldn't win

Sophie Powers didn’t exactly walk into American Idol thinking she would take home the title. In fact, she was well aware that victory wasn't even an option.

"I actually don't have an original thought apparently, because I was cast for the show," she said.

Sophie explained that she was "always down for a random side quest" and saw joining the "legendary and iconic" competition as an ironic move, especially since she’s Canadian.

Producers were already familiar with her earlier "funny" songs, and Sophie admitted that she couldn't win the show because she had a label at the time. Still, she jumped into the experience headfirst, treating American Idol as a way to make her mark, not necessarily to grab the crown.

The mixed reaction to "STFU" doesn't bother Sophie Powers

Sophie knew her song "STFU" would spark strong reactions — and she was ready for it. Some fans loved it, others didn’t, but Sophie isn’t losing sleep over it.

"For the lovers, you guys are real ones. For the haters, I don't blame you — I would, too," she said.

Understanding that American Idol is traditionally seen as a "serious singing show," Sophie acknowledged why some viewers might have been confused. Still, she is choosing to embrace the chaos.

"In da clurb we all fam," she added, summing up her philosophy on how both supporters and critics are part of the same ride.

Sophie Powers had no regrets about her "three noes"

Getting three noes on American Idol might leave some contestants heartbroken, but Sophie Powers took it in stride. In fact, she walked out of her audition smiling. According to Sophie, host Ryan Seacrest was "very confused as to why I was so happy walking out after getting three noes."

When asked if she thought the judges made a mistake, her answer was simple and honest:

"No, I'd be concerned if they said yes."

For Sophie, it wasn’t about validation. It was about showing up, doing her thing, and leaving with her head held high — exactly on her own terms.

The real story behind Sophie Powers’ nose bandage

Viewers immediately noticed the Band-Aid on Sophie Powers’ nose during her American Idol audition. And no, it wasn’t from an injury. It was part of her brand.

"I design the majority of my own outfits. I wear a lot of crazy wigs, different looks constantly," she explained.

As a new artist trying to stand out, Sophie wanted a signature look that fans could recognize instantly.

"No matter the wig, the look, it's the girl with the Band-Aid on her nose," she said.

After her run on American Idol, Sophie decided to retire the bandage and rebrand herself. Still, it made her audition even more unforgettable — a reminder that every little detail can help tell your story.
