Very Scary People is back on ID, featuring some of the most complex true-crime cases. With Donnie Wahlberg as the host, it dives into cases that will leave you shaken like the one about the attempted murder of Koketia King, a former state correctional officer in Miami.
Koketia King's story dates back to 2010, when she was shot in the face, and claimed that it was her boyfriend, Yathomas Riley, who planned to kill her. As shown in the Very Scary People episode on Investigation Discovery (ID), King talks about her experience and how she met the boxer in 2005.
As revealed by the survivor on Very Scary People, the two met through a mutual friend and King liked her boyfriend's honesty. However, little did she know that their relationship would end on a tragic note. When Koketia King got shot, she pointed at Yathomas Riley and stood by her claim that she was the victim.
On the other side, the boxer denied the accusations and claimed that King attempted suicide. There were notable complexities in the case including less evidence and inconsistencies in Koketia King's statements.
However, Riley was charged with attempted first-degree murder and had to spend two years in jail. In a surprising twist, he was released in 2012 and later convicted for another murder.
Very Scary People episode explores a shooting incident of Koketia King on ID
It was in June 2010 when Koketia King's life changed forever after being shot in her face. ID has also shared her interview, in which the survivor sheds light on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Yathomas Riley, and how he attempted to kill her.
King explains that she began dating the boxer in 2005, and by the next year, she got pregnant with their first child. While Riley was a caring boyfriend for King during her pregnancy, she eventually found out about his affairs with other women.
They welcomed their first child and were leading a normal life, until 2010 when Riley called 911 and claimed that his girlfriend attempted suicide. Following the complexity, Riley was arrested for an attempted murder.
During this period, testimony from witnesses and expert opinions were presented, but no concrete evidence could prove King's allegations. Not only this, Riley's defense attorney, Kionne McGhee, stated that King has shared five different stories, leading to inconsistency.
Per CBS News, the attorney said:
"Miss Koketia King is faced with facts that include having a relationship with an inmate currently serving life in prison, engaging in tax fraud from the inside of the jail... She gave five different stories under oath in depositions and sworn statements."
However, as shared in Very Scary People on ID, Koketia King continues to stand by her claim of being shot by Yathomas Riley. She highlighted the boxer's abusive behaviors when she questioned him about having affairs.
The Very Scary People episode on ID also features Riley's sister, Loretta Riley, as she and her mother had doubts about the boxer's claims. The convict's sister can be heard revealing that Koketia King was the "breadwinner" as Riley sometimes failed to make money.

Yathomas Riley is now serving a life sentence for another murder
While Yathomas Riley was cleared in Koketia King's case, he couldn't escape justice after murdering his wife Lisa Amodio in 2013. The woman was found dead inside the master bedroom, while her baby was left alive.
There was blood everywhere in the room, and Yathomas Riley provided a detailed explanation of how he arrived and found their baby. His trial continued for about a week, and on June 24, 2016, he was charged with multiple crimes, and given a life sentence.
While the former boxer is serving his punishment, Koketia King is living her life as a survivor of the shooting incident. So, don't forget to tune in to the episode featured on Very Scary People.
