Shark Tank Investor Barbara Corcoran, in an Instagram post yesterday, shared how she was rejected from being a Shark on the show. However, she wrote an e-mail to the creators and got her seat back and the journey of it all. This was a short post that tickled the curiosity of fans and they all asked her to elaborate.
Granting the wish, Barbara has just released another video on her account explaining what went down when the show was originally starting in America.
She got a call from an agent who asked her if she wanted to be on Shark Tank, a new show starting in Hollywood. Initially, she thought it was a fishing show but after getting an explanation, was very excited to be a part of it.
However, things took a turn when she was denied the offer later stating that someone else had been cast. This prompted her to write an e-mail to Mark Burnett himself and ultimately get her seat back. Barbara says,
"What do you think happened? I got invited out to compete for Shark Tank and I won that goddamn seat."
Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran shares details about her beginnings on the show
Barbara Corcoran shares that she was devastated upon hearing the news that she is not invited as a Shark anymore on this new Hollywood show. The worst part about it all was telling all her friends that she would not be moving to Los Angeles now.
On top of that, she had bought two very expensive outfits and luggage from Bergdorf Goodman, a luxurious shop in New York that might go to waste now.
Despite this moment of weakness and "feeling sorry" for herself, Barbara said she pulled through and does what she knows to do best. She wrote an e-mail to Mark Burnett. Sharing the contents of the letter, Barbara revealed,
"Dear Mark, I understand you've asked another girl to dance instead of me. Although I appreciate being reserved as a fallback, I'm much more accustomed to coming in first. I think you should consider inviting both of us to LA for a tryout and here are my reasons why."
Explaining further, Barbara pointed out the best qualities in herself that make her stand out of the crowd and will make her an amazing panelist on Shark Tank. She continued,
"My first reason was, I do my best work after rejection when my back is against the wall. When sister Stella Marie told me I'd always be stupid in third grade, just because I couldn't read, she was wrong. I can read today. I cited the old boys network in New York City which wouldn't let me in and locked me out until I became the biggest competitor."
Talking about another reference, Barbara wrote,
"I cited Donald Trump himself who owed me $4 million and swear I'd never see a penny of the commission. I sued him and won in federal court. I showed him that I'm very good at coming back up. And I end the letter, by saying, I booked my flight on the 6th and hope to be on that plane."
Barbara shares that even though it was emotionally rough on her to be rejected from Shark Tank, she made it happen for herself. After all this, and giving a tryout for the show, she was selected as a Shark and has never looked back ever since.
Shark Tank season 16 episodes are released weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays.
