Daredevil: Born Again has concluded its first season and, going by social media reactions, many fans feel Netflix's original Daredevil series (2015–2018) was better. It just hit differently. It had a gritty, grounded tone that matched the character of Matt Murdock and the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. On the other hand, the new series depicts the contemporary superhero feeling, scarcely delving into the original Daredevil series.
Read on to know why I feel the new series falls short compared to the original Daredevil.
Here is why the original Daredevil was better than Daredevil: Born Again

Foggy Nelson was Matt Murdock’s best friend and law partner. He is one of the few people who knew Matt is Daredevil and challenges him on it. Along with Karen, the office manager at Nelson & Murdock, Foggy was not a mere hero's sidekick but the moral core of Matt's world. Despite this, Foggy's character was killed off. His death seemed like a meaningless loss in Born Again. According to a fan on Reddit, the storytelling became directionless after a point:
"The overall plot feels directionless. What exactly has Matt been working towards?Fisk has a plan… but six episodes in, and know as much as we did in episode 1."
Moreover, the ambiguity of certain events is frustrating, as the protagonist's decisions often seem confusing. The show feels like Daredevil, but is empty underneath.
The fight choreography, especially the hallway scenes, felt raw and real, almost like ballet in a back alley. Charlie Cox played Daredevil, and the writing gave him depth as both a tortured hero and a struggling Catholic trying to make things better in a corrupt city.
Daredevil: Born Again misses the emotional arc of Matt, Karen and Foggy
Daredevil: Born Again feels too polished and MCU-ified — allow me to coin that term — despite being a promising concept. In Daredevil Season 3, Matt, Karen and Foggy make a promise to start a law firm together. They write what all they need on a napkin in a dimly-lit restaurant. Fans were anticipating that the trio would come together and work to make things better for the city. However, as of now, Foggy and Karen are absent from Born Again, and that missing emotional thread has drawn one of the biggest criticisms from longtime fans.

Also, I agree with the criticism that Daredevil: Born Again doesn't develop the character of the villain meticulously, like how the original Daredevil did. For many fans, the new show felt like a "half-a season" as if it was unable to give a complete picture. Moreover, though Matt, Fisk and Frank's characters came out really well, the supporting characters seemed hollow.
