Thunderstorm Artis may be one of the Top 12 contestants on American Idol now, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune (or averse) to meeting his musical hero. Artis got to perform James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame theme week with Taylor mentoring. For Artis, the largely bizarre event came in stark contrast to a musician who had a huge impact on his development.

Thunderstorm later shared how emotional and distressing it was meeting Taylor. He described “melting in my seat” as the combination of nervous jitters and elation overwhelmed him, working with this well-known singer-songwriter. "I was melting in my seat. I was nervous as heck but I wasn’t showing it on the outside," American Idol star revealed after his performance.

James Taylor, who applauded Thunderstorm, added to the moment's significance by stating that he recognized a part of himself in the young performer. Artis felt honored and affirmed in his musical journey as a result of the sincere endorsement.
