Drama is never far from Sister Wives, and at the center of the show lies the world of Kody Brown. But in a new interview, Kody gets candid about all of his marriages to Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. He did not pull any punches, admitting that all was not always what it appeared on TV. From being emotionally distant with Meri to his worries about Robyn’s future in their relationship, Kody opened up to viewers about the complexities of each marriage.
With his marriages now crumbling in different ways, Kody’s revelations show a man at war with himself between faith, duty, and desire. Kody’s story on Sister Wives has always been one of changing dynamics, and now we’re hearing directly from Kody about where the cracks formed in each of his unions.
Kody talked about his marriages,
"As they left, they stole some of my confidence and I just, I'm vulnerable and I'm a fool."
Kody talks about his struggles with Meri in Sister Wives
Kody and Meri’s marriage was the first to face major struggles. According to Kody, from the very beginning, there was a lack of emotional connection. This openness comes after years of tension between the two, which became painfully evident as their marriage unfolded on Sister Wives.
While Kody acknowledged their issues, Meri tried to stay hopeful.
“He led me to believe that he would work on things,”
She said. But even though she believed in the relationship, Kody felt differently. His thoughts, even during their honeymoon, were a red flag for what would come:
“This marriage was on the rocks the entire marriage.”
Kody’s relationship with Janelle in Sister Wives lacked passion
Janelle Brown had previously mentioned to E! News that her relationship with Kody slowly faded as they grew apart. But what ultimately led to her decision to leave wasn’t just emotional distance—it was Kody’s broken bond with some of their children.
For Janelle, the turning point came when she realized Kody wasn’t willing to do whatever it took to mend those relationships.
“The big spark for me was when his relationship broke down with my children and he didn't seem like he would move heaven and earth to fix it,”
She said, referencing her children Logan, Madison, Hunter, Garrison, Gabriel, and Savanah.
“And I thought, OK, that was what was really holding me here."
Even when Kody brought up the idea of reconciliation in the Nov. 3 episode, Janelle made it crystal clear that it was a non-starter.
“I don’t know how I could ever reconcile with him if he didn’t have a relationship with my kids,”
She said firmly.
“I’ll always choose my kids.”
Christine’s departure from Kody in Sister Wives
After more than 25 years together, Christine and Kody Brown called it quits. The couple, who shared their journey on TLC’s Sister Wives, announced their separation through separate posts on social media.
“After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,”
Christine shared in an Instagram post on Nov. 2.
“We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family.”
Together since March 1994, Christine and Kody have six children: Asypen, 26, Mykelti, 25, Paedon, 23, Gwendlyn, 20, Ysabel, 18, and Truely, 11.
Kody’s own Nov. 2 Instagram statement expressed sadness over the split:
“Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness. We enjoyed many years together and I have a large amount of respect and admiration for her. Although we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain committed parents.”
Kody expresses concern for his marriage to Robyn in
Sister Wives
Kody’s relationship with Robyn, the only wife he is still legally married to, isn’t without its challenges. In fact, Kody admits he’s worried about his ability to be the kind of husband she needs.
He knows that his previous marriages have left emotional scars. His fear now is that the anger he feels over his past will spill over into his marriage with Robyn. The strain from Kody’s unresolved feelings about his past relationships with Meri, Janelle, and Christine continues to haunt his current union.
Despite being legally married to Robyn, Kody’s acknowledgment that he’s not yet over his past marriages shows the deep emotional toll his plural relationships have taken on him. His worries about being a good partner highlight just how much unresolved tension he still carries.
