Building on the current wave of cult film revivals, Sony is set for I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot of the hit 1997 slasher film. Directed by Jim Gillespie, the horror film was loosely adapted from Lois Duncan's 1973 novel of the same name.

While each of its characters played a crucial role, I Know What You Did Last Summer majorly focuses on four friends— Julie James, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Helen Shiver, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ray Bronson, played by Freddie Prinze Jr., and Barry Cox, played by Ryan Phillippe, as teenagers haunted by a serial killer, one year after they were involved in a car accident.

The actors were highly praised for their roles and the gripping story, paving the way for slasher films. There were also two follow-ups to I Know What You Did Last Summer, and after more than two decades, Sony will offer a reboot with a twist.

The reboot is also making headlines for casting some of the highly popular actors among the younger generation, whom fans have seen in acclaimed shows like Outer Banks, General Hospital, and more.

Since the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is a fresh take on the original horror film, exact plot details have been kept under wraps. However, we do know that the makers will add their unique touch to the narrative to make it even more intriguing to watch.

Following the success of the 1997 film, a sequel titled I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) brought some of the key characters back, while the third installment I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) was more of a standalone film, and featured a new cast.

The story in the 1997 film begins with the four friends heading home after a night out and getting into an accident which results in the death of a pedestrian. Haunted by the incident, the four decide to hide her crime by dumping the dead body in water and swearing to each other to keep their crime a forever secret.

The accident leaves a lasting impact on Julie, Ray, Helen, and Barry and the four grow apart. However, one year later, when Julie returns home after college, she finds a disturbing letter. The message reads "I know what you did last summer!" which haunts Julie as she believes someone knows about the accident.

Soon after this, gruesome murders started taking place in the town, with the four being extremely fearful about the truth.
