It appears as if 9-1-1 is hoping to give Grey's Anatomy a run for its money in terms of featuring devastating character goodbyes. In a feat no less than Derek's death, the latest episode, Lab Rats, delivered one of the most devastating deaths in the show.
Played by Peter Krause, Bobby Nash has been an integral part of 9-1-1 since its debut. However, after seven seasons, the show must say goodbye to the beloved captain whose journey comes to an end in the thrilling two-part episode.
Luckily for fans, showrunner Tim Minear has good news. In a conversation with TV Insider, he revealed that this is not the last time we're seeing Peter Krause.
Here's what the 9-1-1 showrunner revealed about the beloved character.
Are we going to see the fan-favorite 9-1-1 Captain again?

Firstly, to clear any misconceptions, Bobby Nash, the 9-1-1 Captain, is definitely dead. He is not secretly alive and going to return to the series despite being a fan favourite. However, this does not mean that this is the last time we see him on the show before Season 8 comes to an end.
Despite Bobby Nash's death, it is reported that and might have some time before they have to bid their final adieu to the character. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Showrunner Tim Minear revealed that Lab Rats was actually not the last episode in which we'll see Peter Krause's Bobby Nash on screen for 9-1-1. When asked if Bobby would be coming back in a dream, a flashback, or a hallucination, Minear replied that:
"This is not even his last appearance this season. that you’re going to see him before the end of the season, that you’re going to see him in some of those ways that you have enumerated. I don’t want to mislead anyone. He’s dead."
So, even though the 9-1-1 captain is dead, Minear's comments make it clear that his presence can still be expected. The show has never shied away from delving into psychological and emotional territory, and so the speculation of Bobby returning through flashbacks, dreams, or hallucinations makes sense.
It is also possible that the rest of the characters will have to embark on a traumatic journey as they recover from the loss of their captain. It is common for 9-1-1 to employ techniques to mark the return of certain characters in unnatural ways, so it is not surprising to expect Bobby to still be a part of the narrative.
However, even though this is not the last we'll see of Peter Krause's character, his return to the show in any form, as mentioned above, will not change the reality of death.
Furthermore, the fact that he died trying to save everyone, as a final act of heroism, makes his death that much harder to process. The montages where Bobby Nash appears will reinforce his relationships in 118, and highlight how hard the loss is for them, and their journey to get closure.

In a heartbreaking final moment with his wife, Athena, Bobby delivered some of the show's most emotional lines:
"I’m sorry, this isn’t how I wanted to leave you. I’m not choosing to leave you. I chose to save my team because it was the right thing to do. It was never because I wanted to go. I don’t want to go. If I could choose, I would stay with you always. Mine was always borrowed. L.A. was supposed to be my penance, not my home. Then you said yes to a dinner invitation, and I started to live again."
Hey, at the very least, Bobby got to see his wife as he breathed his last (yes, Grey's, we still don't forgive you for how Derek went).
9-1-1 Season 8 has one more episode to air on May 1 before the season finale comes live on May 8. The show has already been renewed for Season 9.
