I hope The White Collar reboot does not make this same mistake as the original series

There's no doubt that The White Collar was one of the most engaging thrillers around the time of its debut in 2009, but I still wouldn't shy away from noting a few drawbacks of the show. From portraying the FBI as the bad guys to the overall structure that could have been better, The White Collar has quite a few sore spots that demand attention regardless of the fact that the show generated quite a significant viewership.

Now as preparations are underway for the upcoming The White Collar reboot show, titled White Collar Renaissance, I can only hope that the historic blunders of the original show would be rectified.

The White Collar reboot show should reform its depiction of the FBI in the narrative

The original show featured the characters of Peter Burke and Neal Caffrey and their high-octane relationship carried the show forward. Both of them were on the same side in terms of the greater scheme of things, and were often found taking on the alleged corruption and the ineffective machinations of the FBI.

Peter was initially an FBI loyalist who had worked hard to reach his post and had his faith firmly invested in the agency. However, once after collaborating with Neal, Peter became sensitive to the way the FBI ended up treating Neal. This caused him to develop a feeing that the FBI resorts to lying, threatening and manipulating others in order to get its business done.

As the show continued dishing out new episodes, the narrative went so far as to state that Peter and Neal were able to weed out the bad elements from the agency in a bid to make it more transparent and accountable. Yet, I feel this came in too little and too late. I sincerely hope that the upcoming The White Collar reboot show picks up from there, presenting the FBI in a positive light so that Peter and Neal are able to nab the real bad guys.

Matt Bomer speaks about The White Collar reboot

Matt Bomer, who stars as Neal Caffrey, spoke exclusively with The Hollywood Reporter a while ago, shedding light upon the script and the process behind filming the upcoming reboot show:

"The script is completely in line and in keeping with the show that we were able to do six seasons of, It really just feels like he was able to pick up the right where we left off. It’s a really intelligent, fun, organic way to bring all the characters back together to pay tribute to Willie Garson, Diahann Carroll and folks we’ve lost since the show ended, which was really important to me. It’s something that if you enjoyed the show, you really will have a good time watching it."

He added:

"So much of that experience was just being with that group of people, we worked long hours on that show, and it never felt like work. It was just such a fun, free, open environment and a great place to just create and explore the characters.”

The White Collar is available on Hulu.
