In a recent interview with The Lincoln Project, the Shark Tank investor discussed how gaining financial success is what helped him be free from external pressures. This had helped him to engage in politics without the constraints that are often seen in public figures.
When he was asked about how he became a vocal figure in political discussions and forums, Mark did not mince his words and revealed the true reason.
"I got rich as f*** so I didn’t have to care what anybody thought," he stated bluntly.
Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban shares the real reason why he isn't afraid of speaking up when it comes to politics
When it comes to the success story of Mark Cuban, the Shark Tank investor, it was not an overnight one. It was long, and he revealed putting in the grind for decades while navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Talking about the same, Mark said that he spent years, just like any other entrepreneur who is starting, carefully considering every financial and business move, and tried to avoid setbacks as much as possible.
At that time, Mark says, he was not as active in politics as he is right now. But he stayed updated just to be aware of the situation in the country and analyse the effects of the same on his business. His only priority was to build his business and have a secure financial future.
Cuban says that he dipped his toes into politics during the 2016 US Presidential elections when President Trump was campaigning for his first term. He revealed getting involved with Hillary Clinton and how it shifted his perspective.
Initially, his views were aligned with the Democratic perspective, but they soon evolved when he analysed various administrations. He even sat down with former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris. He explained,
"For the longest time, I never paid attention to politics. Then, when Trump ran the first time, I got involved somewhat with Hillary and learned a few lessons. As things progressed through the Biden administration, I learned a few more lessons. Through the Harris campaign, I learned a lot of lessons."
Mark reveals that he is an Independent. This political independence gives him a chance to evaluate policies and candidates based on their merits. He stated,
"At some point, since I'm an independent, I don't have to kiss anybody's ass."
Unlike many billionaires who engage in politics via lobbying or donations, the Shark Tank investor says he has a different approach. He says,
"I don’t give money to politicians, as you know, and I don’t want it to be about, ‘Okay, I gave you money, so listen to me.’ Either my ideas hold up and have value, or they don’t. And if they don’t, that’s fine too."
Shark Tank season 16 episodes release weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays. They are later available to watch on Hulu.
