LL Cool J's Sam Hanna appeared in NCIS Season 22 Episode 18, almost 16 years after his debut in Season 6.
Sam, who was initially a Senior Special Agent, even moved to the flagship spin-offs in Los Angeles and Hawai'i. However, all of his team was ambushed and killed in NCIS: Hawai'i in Season 3, following which he quit the team and started working on Capitol Hill.
However, Season 22 saw the DC team ask Sam for a favor on a case, which he happily delivered. While his reunion with the original team was exciting, it made him realise the adrenaline rush of this job, and he shared his desire to return with Director Leon Vance.
While Sam returned in a cameo appearance, I hope he becomes a series regular as his character would bring thrill and action to the team. In addition, following what happened in Hawai'i, I believe Sam needs a supportive team that can help him return to the field.

Sam Hanna has featured in several NCIS spin-off series
I believe Sam Hanna deserves to be a series regular in the flagship show because he is well-versed in the universe and has appeared in many NCIS spin-off series.
Sam's journey within the franchise started with the original show, with his debut in Season 6 Episodes 22 and 23. The two-part event served as a backdoor pilot for the first spin-off series, NCIS: Los Angeles, where he became the second-in-command of the Office of Special Projects.
The Los Angeles team was not only more intense and action-packed than the original, but it also featured cutting-edge technology, making it even more interesting. When the show was canceled after Season 14, the finale suggested that Sam would move to Hawai'i to lead the Elite team.
This was a setup to debut his character in the spin-off series NCIS: Hawai'i. Unfortunately, Hawai'i was canceled after season 3, following which all of the Elite team were murdered, with Sam as the only survivor.
A character with such an extensive and tragic history with the franchise, I think Sam needs permanence and his Season 22 cameo hints that he might join the flagship team for good.
I believe Sam Hanna's friendly relationships with the NCIS team would prove good for his future
While Sam Hanna's cameo in season 22 was exciting in itself, I noticed his amicable relationships with almost everyone on the team and it gives me hope that he might have a bright future within the franchise.
While Sam shared good chemistry with the team as seen in the mega crossover event, his equation seemed unchanged in Season 22 as well. While he shared authority with McGee, his trauma bonded him with Jessica Knight, who has also lost her team once.
While Sam's love of sweet desserts was common with Alden, I was surprised by his regular karaoke sessions with Jimmy and his daughter. Such character details not only made me like Sam as a character but underscored his relationship with the DC team. Jimmy and Sam both connected as they are single fathers, juggling a dangerous profession.
While Sam had to take care of a few things at Capitol Hill before he joined the team for good, I hope his parting lines to McGee play out well in the future:
"Definitely see you around."
