Mayim Bialik joined The Big Bang Theory in Season 3 and soon became an inseparable part of the cast. The actress played Amy Farrah Fowler, a neurobiologist who is as socially awkward as Sheldon Cooper.

The two eventually confide in each other, leading to a beautiful romance and a wedding. Though Mayim mesmerized the audience with her performance as Amy till the very end of the CBS sitcom, the actor never actually watched the show.

In a 2020 interview with British tabloid Metro, the actress revealed she had never sat down to watch an episode of The Big Bang Theory, as she does not like to watch herself on screen.

“I’ve never seen most of the episodes. I don’t watch myself on television. I’ve never sat and watched an episode of our show, ever.”

Mayim Bialik also opened up about how the only time she got to see her performance on the screen was when The Big Bang Theory production team showcased some scenes to the live audience. She added she had not even watched the series finale:

“I’ve seen snippets on stage when they would show them to the audience but no, I don’t watch myself. I saw pieces [of the finale] but I was in it, you know?”

Amy’s relationship with Sheldon remained a major highlight of TBBT over the years, and Bialik's nuanced portrayal of those feelings resonated well with the audience. Talking about how the romance was an example of unconditional love, the actress said in her interview:

“I think it’s a really beautiful example of what unconditional love really looks like. There was a lot of give and take, it wasn’t just her tolerating him, he also had to make a lot of adjustments and changes.”
“I think the fans also had some confusion about that – why does Sheldon want a girlfriend in the first place? It took us nine years to figure that out, and I think our writers did a beautiful job with finding that balance.”

Further talking about the last day of the shoot, Bialik revealed the cast needed some time to process that the show was coming to an end after 12 years and felt weird when they did not go back to the set the next fall:

“The whole cast, we kind of talked about it together, but I think the reality of it ending took a long time for it to really settle in.What felt the strangest wasn’t when we finished filming in the spring, it was in the fall when we would have been going back to work.”

Bialik then shared her experience of working on The Big Bang Theory for 10 seasons and said:

“It’s very surreal to be a part of a job for 10 years, which in any climate I think is really an accomplishment, but we were together not only as cast members but as a presence on the television. It’s kind of like a double identity, which makes it even more complicated and beautiful.”

Following the conclusion of TBBT, Bialik was seen playing the titular role in the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat. The rest of her television credits include The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Blossom, Molloy, Welcome to Paradox, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Max.
