During Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary's recent appearance on CNN, he discussed the rare earth minerals and resources issues. He shared an Instagram clip on April 17, 2025, featuring himself discussing the issue with the CNN representative.
When the news representative asked about the effects on American producers and consumers and asked the Shark Tank investor his views, he responded:
"I'd rather be on the U.S. side on this one because the truth is there are other solutions for rare earth minerals and resources, and it's called Canada. We got to resolve that problem. There shouldn't be any tiff with them. They've got everything the North American market needs including energy...a massive amount of energy."
Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary shares his views on rare earth minerals and resource issues while mentioning Canada as the solution
Shark Tank mentor Kevin O'Leary recently discussed the latest issues with rare earth minerals and resources on CNN. The news representative asked him about the issues that American consumers and producers would face. He asked Kevin O'Leary what his concerns would be regarding the situation.
In response, O'Leary Ventures chairman said he would be on the U.S. side and mentioned "other solutions" for the rare earth minerals and resources. He revealed that the solution was Canada and stated that the country has "got everything" that the North American market needs.
Sharing his idea of making a deal with Canada, Kevin stated that they should:
"Do that deal anyways and just show China by combining the economies one way or another, not buying the country forgot the fifty first... fifty first state all that stuff the point is if we get a union back on track, there we can go back to the Chinese and say look we have everything we need in the world's largest economy under democracy don't mess with us."
Shark Tank's mentor shared what his solution would be and added that anything apart from that was the "noise." He also added:
"That's what we should be doing, and I were going to get there. That's what I think is going to happen here. That's the signal and all the noise right now, and that would include Mexico too. You think about these economies put together in...in a cooperative way, it's a massive opportunity."
It was a "massive opportunity" because, as Kevin stated the fact that Canada has anelection in less than two weeks.
The CNN news representative asked Kevin:
"Isn't that what the USMCA and before that NAFTA was doing? I mean, you're essentially saying that uh... President Trump's quest to make Canada the fifty-first state is just a bad idea dumb idea. What would your advice to him be on that?"
Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary refused and added that the "negotiations" would be referred to as NAFTA III and that they are not related to "security" in any way. He stated that there might be a common currency "just like the EU" and discussed the passport system.
Further in their discussion, Kevin O'Leary talked about North America's indigenous population, central bank issues, and a combined union.
