NCIS: Origins is a prequel set in 1991, exploring the early years of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The series offers a fresh look at Gibbs’ beginnings before the events of the original NCIS show. While Austin Stowell takes on the role of a young Gibbs, Mark Harmon, who famously portrayed the character for years, returns as the series narrator.

The show focuses on Gibbs' first activities as a special agent after his family's death. At NIS Camp Pendleton, he then reports to Mike Frank, and the entire curriculum focuses on personal challenges, teamwork, and action and the unique show premiered in October 2024, and a second season was already renewed in 2025.
