I always low-key wished Haley ended up with Andy on Modern Family

The Peacock comedy show Modern Family showcases the lives of 3 generations within the same family— the oldest one married to a much younger Latin woman, his son lives with his gay partner and an adopted child, and the daughter has 3 kids with a not-so-mature husband. Claire and Phil Dunphy are gearing up for the responsibility of Haley, Luke, and Alex.

Haley, the oldest, is shown as the careless one, into fashion and liked by many guys, while Alex, the middle child, is exactly the opposite, with her head always buried inside her books. Haley is often seen dating one guy, Dylan, who her mom thinks is exactly like Phil. The on-and-off relationship she has with Dylan seems casual in Modern Family, but he remains the one who stands by her till the end.

However, there comes a point when it seems like Haley could genuinely fall in love with another character who was introduced in season 5, Episode 1— Andy Bailey. He is introduced as a male nanny who joins Gloria and Jay to take care of baby Joe. And to be honest, I genuinely wished Haley ended up with Andy in Modern Family.

Here is why I believe Haley should have ended up with Andy in Modern Family

Andy is upbeat, detail-oriented, and eager to make a good impression, though initially, Jay is sceptical about hiring a man to look after his child. His quirky, earnest personality quickly stands out, and his interactions with the family (especially Haley) set the stage for future storylines. He even got along with Phil and started assisting him lately with his business. And when he was just perfectly fitting into the family and in Haley's heart as well, he introduced his long-distance girlfriend and how passionate he is about her. This leaves Haley a bit bothered, and she even makes jokes that she doesn't exist.

As a fan, I truly enjoy these 'fun and games' between them. In one scene, Haley is about to go on a date with a random guy who is too late to pick her up. Andy calls out his irresponsible nature and that Haley deserves better. Andy also helps Haley through a tough job interview, and she gets her first job. After a point, some tension starts to build between the two, and the entire season suggests how perfect the two would be together. Even Claire and Phil start to immediately accept their relationship. But every good thing ceases to exist at some point.

In the hospital, Haley admits her feelings to Andy in Modern Family

In season 6 of Modern Family, Andy was hospitalised for having his appendix removed. Haley visits him at the hospital, and it’s clear she cares deeply about him. She’s emotional and tries to stay by his side. Things get tense when Beth, Andy’s girlfriend, shows up unexpectedly. Her arrival catches Haley off guard. It’s clear that Haley is developing strong feelings for Andy, but the situation with Beth complicates everything.

Haley, in one of the scenes in episode 7, confesses her true feelings to Andy, thinking that he is unconscious. She tells him how he makes her want to be a better person and how he's different from all the guys she’s dated before. It’s a raw, vulnerable moment, especially since Haley is usually guarded about her emotions. In a twist, Andy opens his eyes when Haley leaves the room.

Even after Andy proposes to his girlfriend, I still had lingering feelings about these two getting together. When Andy was reintroduced in the series, getting obese over losing Haley, the thought crossed my mind again, only to see them both going back to their separate lives.
