Following the cancellation of Daredevil on Netflix, Daredevil: Born Again is now all set to bring back Matt Murdoch to the MCU. Although Daredevil: Born Again won't be premiering as the fourth season of the original Daredevil show, the character histories and, most importantly, the arc of Charlie Cox's Matt Murdoch are expected to be roughly the same.
This comes after a major creative overhaul that Daredevil: Born Again had to go through following a crucial recasting by Marvel. Since it is difficult to imagine the world of Daredevil and Matt Murdoch without the presence of pivotal supporting characters like Karen and Foggy, the upcoming MCU show will have both of them among the ensemble cast.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the creative overhaul in the production process was the reason behind the delay in release, with Marvel recasting Vanessa Fisk and considering the removal of characters Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. However, it has now been confirmed by a Collider report that the two will be joining the hero lawyer in his fight against corruption.
Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere sometime in March 2025 on Disney+ and will consist of nine episodes. Here's everything we know about the upcoming show and how it ties into the original.
Daredevil: Born Again connection with Netflix's Daredevil explained
The makers of Daredevil: Born Again have quite a tall order to fulfill. They must first distinguish the show from the original to align itself with the MCU's storytelling practices. At the same time, they should also not change the foundation of the narrative in such a way that there is a disjoint between it and the original, thus confusing the audience.
Given the success of the first three seasons of Daredevil, it is only natural that Daredevil: Born Again will do good to rely on what made the original show a hit. With the return of characters like Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, Punisher, and Bullseye, the upcoming show can provide a continuum for Charlie Cox's Matt Murdoch to operate.
The audience has endeared themselves to these characters throughout the first three seasons of the original, and the new show will draw upon their memory. The production team hired even the same stunt coordinator from the original show.
Daredevil: Born Again cast opens up on the original show's nostalgia
During D23 2024, the cast of Daredevil: Born Again, including Charlie Cox, Jon Bernthal, Vincent D'Onofrio, Elden Henson, and Deborah Ann Woll, spoke at length with Entertainment Weekly about the nostalgia they felt while shooting the upcoming show as they shot scenes that literally call back to the original. Cox stated:
"The first day on set with Deborah, myself, and Elden was really special because the scene that was written was like a scene where we were reminiscing over old times and all the things we’ve done."
He further added that props were brought in from the sets of the original to give a sense of continuity:
"Deborah and I had a scene where we find an old box — am I allowed to say that? I think I can say that. We had a scene where we were looking through a box and we find stuff from the past, and it was real stuff from the past. It was stuff from the old [show]. It was like a photo frame we used on a set eight years ago and we were looking at it together — well, I wasn’t looking at it. But we were reminiscing over it, and it was sweet. It was kind of a little bit of life imitating art."
