With 18 Emmys, last year, the FX series, Shogun, made history as a non-English show. Well, the winning streak of the show is continuing as the 82nd Golden Globes drought Shogun four wins, which included the awards for Best Drama Television Series, Best Supporting Male Actor, and Best Male and Female Actors.
Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai had previously won Emmys for Shogun and their win at the Golden Globes marked their first Globe win. Supporting actor, Tadanobu Asano’s win also brought him his first Globe, making it a great night for Shogun.
While the show had already captivated the fans when it came out in 2024, now with all the spotlight that it is getting, let us look at where Shogun can be streamed for free.
How can Shogun be Streamed Online?
Shogun is available to stream on Hulu, where the series premiered on February 27, 2024, with its first two episodes. All the 10 episodes of the show can be streamed on Hulu for free but only if you have an existing subscription.
Hulu offers 30 days for a free trial and availing the free trial will also enable you to stream Shogun for free on Hulu. After the trial ends, subscription costs are
- $7.99/month (with ads)
- $17.99/month (without ads).
Another way of streaming Shogun online is on Disney+ but for that, you need to have Hulu’s subscription bundled up with the Disney+ plan. The dual streaming service comes at a $9.99/month fee and it will give you complete access to both Disney+ and Hulu’s content library.
Getting the bundle is more beneficial than taking the subscriptions of these two platforms individually because the bundle not only saves 37% cost of individual subscription fees but also gets you access to a larger number of movies, shows, and other programs. Both Hulu and Disney+ charge a monthly fee of $7.99 per month for a regular subscription and getting them together would cut down the cost significantly.

What is Shogun about?
Shogun is adapted from James Clavell’s novel of the same name and is set in the 1600s. The show follows Japan during the 17th century when it was on the verge of a massive civil war. It is the story of Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), a lord, and shipwrecked English sailor, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), as they come to contact the Englishman and his ideals clash with the Japanese culture.
While this goes on, the inside politics of Japan is also explored in Shogun, showing in detail how the lords fall out among themselves and how far they would go to secure power and position.
The show boasts an impressive cast, including Anna Sawai, Takehiro Hira, Tadanobu Asano, Fumi Nikaido, Tommy Bastow and to name a few. Created by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, Shogun took almost 10 years to make and finally grace the screens and when it did, the effort and the craft that took to make the show was visible.
All the episodes of Shogun Season 1 can be streamed on Hulu.
