ABC News' Scamanda, a four-part docuseries about the scam of Amanda Riley, released its Episode 1 on January 30, 2025.
In May 2023, a podcast of the same name was hosted by Charlie Webster, which recounted the story of Amanda and how she scammed more than 300 people from 2012 to 2019.
Riley faked having blood cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma and created a personal blog on multiple social media platforms to document her cancer treatment journey. She hosted online fundraisers and in-person charities and urged people to donate for her expensive cancer treatment, which went straight to her bank account.
This way, Riley was able to extort approximately $100,000 through donations until investigative producer Nancy Moscatiello uncovered her scam.
Scamanda Episode 2 will be available first on ABC News. Viewers will also be able to stream on Hulu the following day.

Scamanda: What has Riley said about her crime?
After Riley's scam was uncovered, she was found guilty of wire fraud and was sentenced to 60 months in prison. She was also asked to refund all the victims she played during her scam. Initially, she was sent to Federal Medical Center Carswell, a federal prison in Ft. Worth, Texas.
After her husband, Cory Riley filed for a divorce, she was relocated to RRM Long Beach, a residential reentry management field office. Her release date is set to December 4, 2025.
According to a report by the United States Attorney’s Office, Northern District of California, Riley will undergo three-year supervision after her release to ensure that she does not continue her ill practices after her release.
According to her court transcripts from May 2022, Riley gave a statement about her crime:
“Your Honor, there aren’t enough words to adequately express how horrific I feel and how sorry I am that this happened. My heart aches every day, thinking that I did something that hurt other people. This is the worst thing I’ve ever done and the worst mistake I could have made.”
She added:
“I’m here to accept responsibility and humbly accept my consequences as the first step of showing everyone I want to make this right. I will spend the rest of my life working towards the amends for the hurt that I have caused.”
