The Voice season 26 wrapped up its final playoff round on November 26 by selecting 8 artists to perform in the Live Semi-Finals. Each coach selected 2 artists from their respective teams, and 8 out of 20 artists advanced to the next round.
Out of these 8 extraordinary performances, one that made its mark was Team Bublé member Shye's tribute to Liam Payne, the One Direction singer who passed away last month. Michale Bublé appreciated Shye's choice of Story of My Life as her playoff song and said, "It's a great song. It's unexpected, and it's worthy of her and her talents."
Both the mega mentor and coach Buble encouraged Shye during the rehearsals and told her to own the song to convey her story through the performance. The tribute evoked strong emotions in the audience as well as the coaches as it earned her a spot in the Live Semi-Finals of The Voice 26.
During Shye's performance, The Voice 26 team took the opportunity to dedicate a tribute to the One Direction singer. The band has been a part of the show's legacy as Niall Horan featured as coach and won seasons 23 and 24 alongside Gina Miles and Huntley.
The news of Liam Payne's death sent shock waves among the fans as he fell from a hotel balcony in Bueno Aires, Argentina.
Former The Voice coach Niall Horan issued a heartfelt statement mourning Liam Payne
Niall Horan was "devasted" after he learned about the news of his ex-band members and friend Liam Payne. He took to his Instagram to express his deepest condolences. The statement reads:
"I'm absolutely devastated about the passing of my amazing friend, Liam. It just doesn't feel real. Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious. He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and secure."
The statement further reads:
"All the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness. We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn't happen often in a lifetime."
The Voice Season 26 also paid tribute to the late singer by dedicating a performance to him. Micheal Buble chose the song Story of My Life for Shye and had this to say when asked to give feedback:
"I met Niall Horan [when he was] close to about your age and he was electric already. And so, I wanted to do something where I felt like I was paying tribute to that potential and greatness. Some people just got it, and we can't explain it. There's no way to articulate it — the lights turn on and they just glow. I'm just so proud of you. Way to go, Shye."
The final 8 artists who secured a spot in the Live Semi-Finals are - Jeremy Beloate and Christina Eagle of Team Snoop, Adam Bohanan and Danny Joseph of Team Reba, Jan Dan and Sydney Sterlace of Team Gwen, and Shye and Sofronio Vasquez from Team Bublé.
The Voice 26 will air Live Semi-Finals on December 2 on NBC.
