He attended the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles and played for the CIF state champion boys team in 1996 and 1997.

Segal’s height also became the subject of one of the episodes in How I Met Your Mother. He portrayed the role of Marshall Eriksen, a lawyer with a giant personality but a soft heart, in all nine seasons of the CBS sitcom between 2005 and 2014.

In one of the episodes, it was shown that despite being the tallest member of his friend group, Marshall was the shortest among his siblings. However, in Shrinking, Segal stands out not just due to his tall stature, but also for the emotional depth that he brings to his character.

Jason Segal’s success in the entertainment industry is not limited to Shrinking and How I Met Your Mother. Born on January 18, 1980, in Santa Monica, California, had no connections in the entertainment industry, and has come so far with his talent and dedication.

At the age of 17, he was performing at his high school play, where he was approached by an audience member who turned out to be Paramount’s casting president. Then there was no looking back for the actor.

Segal had his big break in 1999 with the cult-favorite show Freaks and Geeks, where he played Nick Andopolis, a lovable, drum-playing teen. He further impressed the audience with the 2008 comedy film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which he starred in and wrote.

He has also been in popular movies like the bromantic comedy I Love You, Man (2009) and the musical comedy The Muppets (2011). In recent years, Segel has taken on more serious roles in movies like The End of the Tour (2015), Our Friend (2019), and The Sky Is Everywhere (2022), showing that he can do more than just comedy.


The actor took a break from acting after How I Met Your Mother

Jason Segal had reached new heights in his career with the success of How I Met Your Mother, but he decided to step away from the limelight after the show wrapped in 2014. He moved out of LA and spent some time on self-reflection.

Sharing his hiatus experience in an interview, Segal told The Hollywood Reporter:

“I moved to a little country town and I started to ask myself questions like, ‘What do you actually like? What are you actually thinking about right now? Who do you want to be as a performer and an artist?’”

The actor added that the break brought much-needed calmness to him. Segal eventually returned to acting and continues to amaze the viewers with his appearances in shows like Shrinking.
